Wow.....nice find. Now we can all hold the dealerships hostage for a break on the repair cost.

most of those TSBs are general service items and suggestions. Only a few of the TSB's actually refer to any real problems.

TSB is not same as recall.

Just checked again, the years stated are for all years of "Legend". Notice the TSBs start at April of 1987 and go thru July of 2003.

How long do these TSB stay in effect? For example, if a TSB came out in 1997, but now it's 2004 and my car starts to show signs of the problem, will the dealer be obligated to fix the problem for free? Thanks in advance.

A TSB isn't a recall. In essence, it's just a notice of known issues. Unless otherwise stated, you do not normally get issues addressed by TSBs fixed for free. This is only done in the case of a recall.

In this case, I assume TSB are only good while the car is still under manufacturer's warranty. My dad's '04 RX330 had 4 TSB done and all of them were free.

TSB's are basically a BKM (best known method) of a commonly seen occurence or problem. All cars have problems or early failures specific to that car line, and TSB's just address that. In no way can a TSB be interpreted as a admission of responsibilty for the automaker.

A TSB can be issued for various reasons, and even if your car is under warranty, having a TSB does not mean it will be covered under warranty. Warranties, good faith, and recalls are all exclusive of TSB's.

I understand that not all TSBs are covered under warranty but I disagree with you on the part that a TSB cannot be interpreted as an admission of responsibility for the automaker. It is indeed their responsbility to address the problem immediately because it's a not single incidence anymore but yet a commonly known problem. As soon as a TSB is issued, the assembly line adapts to correct that issue. And for the cars that are out on the streets, if they have the problem, the dealers have the choice to fix the problem free of charge...whether it's under a specific category of warranty or not. Furthermore, this goodfaith only exist when a dealer agrees to fix something that isn't from a TSB or warranty issue. In the case of TSBs, dealers are obligated to fix the problem if it can be proven that it exist. Also, every TSB performed by the dealer is paid by their respective automaker. That's why it's free of charge to us.

Thus, back to my original question...how long does these TSBs stay in effect?

TSB's are really only advice on how to fix something. They have no warrenty implications whatsoever.

Never mind.....

I found what I was looking for...direct from Edmunds.com:

"These bulletins differ from recalls in that they are not considered safety or emissions issues and they usually apply only when your vehicle is in its warranty period (whereas a recall is "open" until the work has been performed). TSBs frequently (but not always) address a recurring problem and include illustrated instructions for repair, a list of the parts needed, the warranty status and the labor charge."

"And, of course, the best thing about finding a TSB that seems to cover a persistent problem in your vehicle is that dealerships will make the repair for free, provided that

Your vehicle is under warranty;

Your service advisor and/or technicians are able to confirm that the problem exists.

The manufacturer pays for the repair, not the dealership, and the dealership has to treat the manufacturer like a customer "

Hope this clears up all the confusion. Peace!

:p
