Unhappy ...found some oil on my spark plug

I was changing my spark plugs today and on one of them there was some oil on it. The spark plug wasnt covered in oil only the first couple of threads were (a little less than half of the plug had a little oil on it). You guys think I will be ok or should I look into the problem? Mabe a I new head gasket?

I dont have time right now but Ill get some pics of the plug later. I just want to be careful, I love my baby.

Thanks guys I appreciate it

-Kerry

Ya, it could be your gasket, but dont be worried about it. I once owned a Taurus SHO, and every time I took out some of the plugs they were BURIED in oil. I would just take the plugs out, let the oil drain into the combustion chamber, put the plugs back in and then fire the engine up to burn the oil residue. No problems after that.

that happened on my accord and I took it into to get checked,
there are individual rubber gasket around the plug and they were bad, after they replaced the gasket it was fine no more oil.
but I don't think it's the headgasket though.

what could be some of the effects of oil around the spark plugs?

I experienced that with my previous vehicle. There are indeed rubber seals around the spark plug chambers. If you want to fix the problem, replace these gaskets along with the valve cover gaskets.

If you have a chilton's or a Haynes manual, you can find out what the oil on the spark plug means. I think its in the tune up section of the manuals. they have pictures of the different types of symptoms that spark plugs may encounter.

Yeah its not the head gasket. Wouldn't worn piston rings cause oil to leach into the combustion chamber and burn and/or stick to the plug?

follow that advice. change the spark plug gaskets & the valve cover gasket.

don't over-torque, just snug.
