Car was covered in salt so decided to run it through the local automatic carwash. After a thorough soaping with dirty water :p , went through the drying fans. The fans were so powerful I thiought they would lift the hood off. Just then, the Check Engine light comes on and flashes. When I started paying attention rather than freaking, I saw that it was flashing a pattern - one long one and three short ones. When I got home I consulted the Hayes manual. It was flashing Code 13 - Barometric Pressure. The manual said it is a sensor that sends atmosphric temperature readings directly to the PCM. Started it up today and it ran fine, no flashing idiot light.
I figure the fans sent a boost of air into the intake that sent the sensor off the charts. Anything like this ever happened to YOU? |

Sensor built in....
The barometric sensor is sometimes included in the computer, but on most Hondas, it is a sensor under the dash. When the air blew and the pressure spiked in the cabin, the sensor told the computer went haywire. That is good to know that the thing actaully works! I always thought they made very little change in the fuel mapping of the engine but at least the computer listens to the sensor.
Interesting observance, could be used as a hurricane warning. But by that time, its too late!
