hand waxing VS porter cable/buffer

I've always hand waxed my cars...

how many of you out there are using a buffer or porter cable and how many are not using any kind of machine?

(thinking about buying a porter cable... again)

waxing and polishing are different things. You can use a porter cable to buff and polish and still hand wax. I've actually never heard of anybody using a porter cable to wax their car.

I bought my PC back in early '04 and absolutely love it. I use it to polish out swirls and minor scratches and also use it to wax. Haven't hand waxed since. Well worth the money.

i have hand waxed my car for quite some times, but when it comes to swirls, you cant really get them out without a rotary polisher of a sort.

I assume you would also include the Porter Cable "Orbital" buffer in this statement as I have had GREAT success in removing swirls with mine.

Agreed. A Porter Cable is a must if you own a dark colored car. I'd hate to be without mine.

i see, how much do these run for? My coupe is charcoal gray and after the paint im gonna want to start waxing it regularly. If these are reccomeneded for darker paints (right Kenso?) ill definatly grab one.

I use poorboys products and CCS pads... though, not on a porter cable 7424. I will be replacing my orbital with the Porter Cable in the future.

Hand waxed all my cars, all my life. It's one of those old school, that's-how-the-old-man-did-it type things. Kind of like hitting my head on shit while I'm fixing something. I get it from him

I took a look at the Meguiar's Web site and came up with this post discussing the PC 7336 and 7424 -

"They are essentially the same machine. the 7336 has the 6" counterweight, and the 7424 has the 5" counterweight. The G-100 from Meguiar's is the exacty same model as the 7424, but offers a backing plate and pad in addition to a lifetime warranty. Point is, all three are essentially the same, if you want to insure you investment I'd go with the G-100, if not the 7336/7424 is probably your best bet. BTW, the pad/backing plate that comes with the 7424 should never, I repeat never touch your car's paint."

Meguiar's put their name on the 7424 and call it the G-100. You can shop a little and get them a a good price. While searching I found a case and will probably buy it. What Meguiar's teaches is that "random" is the key word for amateur detailers (like me). You start getting into rotaries - you better leave it to the pro's.

Waxing with the G-100 is quicker and allows a more even application of wax. The real value of the machine, though, is cleaning paint and swirl removal.

I would suggest it for use on any color car. They all get scratches and swirls. It's just more noticeable on darker colors.
