Unhappy has anyone ever replaced there own timing belt?

Ok so my car is overheating, I have checked everything. it was leaking a little but not anymore. yet it still overheats. I’ve changed the thermostat, radiator, hoses. fan turns on. STILL overheats . so I’m thinking its the water pump that’s out. I’ve read on other threads that if I replace the water pump I might as well replace the timing belt, which I’m scared to do. seems pretty easy to do but I just wanted to get some feedback on those that have done it before. Thanks in advance

depends if you need your car on a daily basis..?

it'll take some time if you do not know what you are doing.

I was thinking about doing it myself, but just ended up paying my mech to do it.. but i was beside him every step of the way mooching knowledge.. its fairly simple.. just takes patience.. you can certainly do it yourself.

off with the intake
off with the covers
off with the pulleys
off with the belts
off with the h2o pump
make sure the timing is correct
and back on everything goes

for bhg .. do you have basic symtoms? like losing coolant.. ? oil in coolant reservoir? ... smoke from exhaust? ...

could be overheating.. but that could just be your h2o pump gone bad.. or thermostat.. or air in your cooling system

not losing coolant.. no oil in coolant reservoir... my friend said there was some smoke from exhaust, but i had my wife drive it and i followed and saw no smoke...i have replaced the thermostat. how would i know if there is air in my cooling system? i did drain it all out and refilled it while the car was running.
