Head lights randomly turn off while driving!

I have a 1993 Acura Legend and it has recently developed this odd problem. At first when I would start my car the head lights would not turn on. I would have to switch them on and off a couple of times and then it would work. Sometimes they would work fine right away.

Recently though my headlights have been randomly turning off WHILE DRIVING! I have to turn them on and off for it to turn back on but sometimes it takes a bit. Even the high beams don't work as well during this time.

Any help??? Could it be a defective bulb? fuse? Any advice would be great before I take it into a mechanic who will try and rip me off.

Thanks!

loose wiring? Check your wiring or relays. Also theres a thing on the passenger side of the car (looks like a data port) behind the headlight near the intake its bolted. Make sure that bolt is tight. That will cause that side to go out.

Thanks! Is there any way to test if it's actually the relay compared to something else? Anyone else have any similar problems?

Yeah if you just want to test to see if the relay is engaging, remove the headlight relay and then turn on your headlight switch. Next plug the relay back in. If you hear it click then you know that the relay's coil is good, as well as the relay's ground. When it clicks if the headlights are not working then you need to check for power coming in to #30 pin on relay. If you have power there then you need to check for an open or high resistance in your headlights ground.
