HELP!!!!!!!!! 91 Transmission removal and installation woes

i am having a problems removing the old transmission from my Legend. the extension shaft in the trans is completely seized onto the intermediate shaft so badly that when i use my extension shaft puller i made both front wheels are spinning. the trans in the legend has completely screwed up and will not go into drive unless you hold it down past neutral a little bit with all your might. so for my customer i went and got a new trans to put in from a 93. i got everything else ready except the trans housing bolts holding it onto the block. after looking on this site and at pictures of the shaft puller i mocked up my very own shaft puller (pic below). is there something else i can do or may be missing that the shaft wont disengage? is my tool missing something that ive over looked? please help me in this terrible dilemma. i have work at 4 and wont be able to get back to the car till 9 and was really hoping to get the old trans out before i left for work. thank you ahead of time and i hope to god someone can help me.

I think most of us don't ever touch the extension shaft, all I do is pull the tranny back and it disengages. When putting the new one on, you have to put an axle in the differential and then have a helper rock it back and forth a little to get the tranny to properly mate up.

ok so pretty much get everything disconnected and start trying to pull the trans off that the extension shaft will just disconnect? is it because the ring that keeps it in place can sometimes not release? i noticed this on the other transmission i have to put in that i got it from the place by me it was disengaged so i went to put it back into place to make sure what i could tell was good in the new trans. when i went to push the extension shaft back again it was almost impossible and it was of course in park. Then the new trans should slide onto the intermediate shaft first while someone rockin it back n forth (the diff that is) until im flat against the engine. thanks for all your help! i've been clueless as to what i was going to do. they need their car back tomorrow and didnt know if i was going to have to give them bad news.

As a matter of fact, I recommend NOT removing the ext shaft as it can open a can of worms sometimes. You don't have to push the motor forward either. Simply jack up the motor, remove the mid-mounts and brackets then place a hammer handle or a small piece of wood in between the sub frame and the rear of the oil pan to hold the motor up. Let the engine down onto the wood, then wiggle the transmission off of the engine. You need to come out with the transmission at a pretty extreme angle (about 45 degrees) in order to clear the subframe.
Going in with the ext shaft out is a bit harder. As your wiggling the transmission on to the motor, spin the extension shaft (place trans in nuetral) with a half inch drive ratchet so that the shaft and diff teeth mesh. Do not force them toghether with the bolts!
