I am trying to upgrade my 90 Legend LS with 154k miles to a 91 with 35k! Please somebody give me a carfax report pleeease!

The dealer is asking...$8995 for it, is that too much. Kbb gave me 7999 for retail and NADA guides have me $6700 for high retail. I want this car soooo bad its 4dr red with 35k miles!!!!!!!! What should my mindset be when i go to the dealer and what should my bargaining stratagy be!

The price is relative to the value you perceive this particular car to have for you. As many know, I recently purchased my 93 Coupe w/13.8k (at the time) for more than 1.5 times what the asking price is for yours, and that was private party and fellow A-L member....(thanks dolefee). I don't regret it for a minute, just think about it....what can you buy today (new) for less than $10k? And what do you get for your money? ....that's why in my mind the Legend is the superior value - especially with low mileage....yours is less than 3k annual driving- very nice.

Also, when I found my 93 LS Sedan it was in 2000 and the car only had 28k on her. I paid top retail book for two reasons, one I wanted it (and had been looking for over a year for a good clean Legend) and two, it was an estate sale and I was lucky enough to be first in line with many others waiting right behind me who also wanted to buy it....the lady selling it was a judge and she wasn't taking any less than full blue book retail for the car.

As far as mindset, it looks like you've done your homework so you can use that info at the dealership (is an Acura dealership?). Ask if there is a complete history of service records available to see on the car - this can help justify the higher price - or lower if they don't. If you have a specific price in mind, stick to it and work them towards your price. Always remain cool and be prepared to walk from the deal being offered if you don't like it....they will either counter offer or if you do actually leave, call you later. Their motivation to sell will depend on two things, how long have they had the car and what they put in the car ($$$ for trade-in). Another question to ask it what reconditioning work was done to the car (help justify the cost), and ask to see (and see it before buying) the service report showing reconditioning services done, i.e. lube, oil, filter, air filter, battery, brakes, tires, interior, etc. Was the timing belt & water pump replaced? It's been more than 7 years, which is what is recommended 80k or 7 years, if not then make it part of the deal if they want full price.

That's about it, be consistent, don't waiver, but also be willing to negotiate within reason, make an offer somewhere between private party and retail value (on the low side), that shows you know the value of the car & interested, but not dumb enough to walk in and roll over. Arizona Legend has some very good points. I agree that the car should have a certain value to you but at the same time you have to make a sensible investment decision. I would personally shoot somewhere between Blue Book and NADA. Do not get emotional about the car, thats why most people end up paying way more then they should.

Hey Fellas I just bought a 92 L sedan with 155k on it I was wondering if you could do a carfax for me? I Love this car, Ive owned an 86 Olds Cutlass V8, and 2 Lincoln Mark VII's with the mustang 5.0HO V8 and this is just as quick, and drives so much better at higher speeds, I bought it for 3300, and the car is in very good condition inside and out, I'm just curious to see its history.

I think the Legends are underpriced in the blue book etc, probably lets the insurance companies off the hook easily. Most owners with a clean Legend wouldn't consider selling at the blue book price as they couldn't come close to something like theirs for that amount.
