That's how I did mine, but I used a wire hanger instead of a paper clip.
This is what we need!! Good find!!

I believe D2R's are the type of bulbs. I believe HIDs come with just one beam strength and you need to mod for high and low. I am still researching so please excuse this lame answer =)

There is some insight here:
I finally got my D2R's into my JDM's and....

no high and low beams, seriously if i was to get JDM lights i'd do a projector install with BI Xenon, but why does the h4h beam pattern look so much better? --=Keith

yes, unless you get bi-xenons, they are single beam.
bi-xenons are significantly higher than normal beam HIDs.

Good find G2girl, I added to the FAQ

d2s/d2r are the same EXACT bulbs. d2r's just happens to have a coating/shield on the bulb that are made for Reflector type headlights ie. Tl's are reflector type headlights..so they come with d2r bulbs, same with gs400's. Now for d2s bulbs, they dont have the shielding on the bulbs...and are made for projectors...ie BMW, Benz... Keep in mind that d2s/d2r are all OEM spec bulbs. They all have a rating of 4100/4300k. Phillips also makes the Ulitron(sp?) kit that is rated at 6000k.

I like OEM kits much better than aftermarket kits because you know the bulbs you are getting have to be Phillips or Osram Sylvannia because they're the only ones who distribute bulbs to car manufacturers. Most aftermarket hid kits are made in korea/china and come with some Sh!tty bulbs with coating on it to give you that 6000k, 7000k, 9000k color, and with that coating it defeats the purpose of having HID's because it decreases the light output and shortens the life of the hid bulbs. Xenon gases are what produces the color in the hid bulbs, so make sure the bulbs u guys buy are clear.

Also, there are no such thing as High/low beam d2r/d2s bulbs. The only high beam hid's are the Bi-xenon kit that are equiped in some cars. They use some kind of shield mechanism that lowers and raises the gates to change the reflection of the light causing it to beam higher and lower for the highs/lows.

Leon,

It's the same beam, same bulb, there is a shield that lowers in hi-beam mode when triggered, lowering the shield lets more light shine out.

the h4h beam pattern appears to be better than our headlights because they had a beam pattern that looked better than ours to begin with. Our legend headlights didn't even have a nice cut off. The rule with hid retros are..if the car had a good cut off from teh start..then it'll have a somewhat decent cut off with the hid retrofit. I know when i did the d2r/9006 retrofit for my legend, the beam pattern wasn't perfect but it still shined a whole lot better than the stock 9006 bulbs.
