High-beam headlights... what for?

how many people here use the highbeam (excluding HID users) on their headlights?

also, what are the laws on it, specifically in california?

and if high beam is not street legal, then how come it came with the car? what purpose does it serve?

I use my high beams all the time. Of course I turn them off when another car is in sight. I use them to watch for animals on the road mainly. I have never heard of them reffered to as not street legal.

I use them for the same reason you do. I also use them to signal to people sometimes. Like there are a lot of 4-way stops in my town and not everyone knows how to go through it right. In Driver's Ed they tell you to yield to the right, but not everyone does so I use my lights to tell people to go.

high beams are legal...They can be use as long as your 1000 ft away from other vehicles. I think thats what it states in the law book. The only time I need to use the high beams is to flash slow drivers in the fast lane.

I mainly use it for heavy rain, snow, or fog,....basically for any conditions where its hard to see, or where other drivers may not see you, also for signaling trucks that they are clear to move into your lane (interstate driving),...around the city, just to grab someones attention, but since I got my HID's,.... I havent really used them at all,...lol...

i dont know if you know this or ever noticed this or not, but its advised that you do not use high beams in conditions of fog/rain/snow because it'll make visibility worse.

High beams are awesome. The general rule of thumb is that you use them whenever your regular headlights arn't good enough. Like on hills with alot of windy roads and your headlights can't shine far enough for you to predict the turns. Of course, they are blinding has hell to people in front of you, whether they are head on or driving in front of you, so remember to turn them off.

High Beams are street legal, but only within a certain range...You're not suppose to use them as regular driving headlights because they're aimed too high and you'll cause a hazard to other drivers.

I use them when oncoming traffics starts highbeaming me too. I guess some people think I got my highs on because I got HIDs.
