I'm impressed that you are trying to keep the unsprung weight down on your car. The G2 Legends have very light suspension pieces, and the low unsprung weight contributes to better handling, and a better ride. The shocks have less mass to control when the suspension pieces and the wheel/tire mass is low.

The offset is also important to handling. The suspension control arms are essentially second-class levers. If you move the wheel outboard, the shocks/springs have a longer lever to contend with, and they lose a bit of their ability to control the momvement of the car. Also, less positive offset increases the load on the hub bearings.

Let us know what the final decision is, and post some pics.

Tinkindling ~ thanks a lot for your comments. But one thing I'm not so sure of: I don't know if the offsets on the NSX and S2000 rims are the right ones for my slightly increased wheel widths.

Front: NA2 NSX front rims: 7.0 width, +55 offset.
Rear: AP1 S2000 front rims: 6.5 width, +55 offset.

Stock KA7: 6.5 width, +65 offset.

I think I'd be somewhat OKAY with my selection for fronts because the offset is decreased to compensate for the wider wheels (this is from my understanding of offset/width value relationships). But my choice for rear wheels I'm now iffy about because there is a sudden -10 decrease in offset, while still keeping the 6.5 width.

I originally chose the S2000 front wheels because they are 16" (so it would not look so goofy if the front and rear rims are not the same size) and they are lighter than the KA8 Legend GS wheels/BB6 Prelude wheels that are the same 16 x 6.5 size I'm looking for. If I've made a bad choice for using S2000 fronts as my rear rims, I may just try using Legend GS wheels instead, despite the 3lbs. increase in weight.

Many years later, I've finally done the swap =)

The wheels/tires are:
Front: NA1 NSX rear wheels, 16x8JJ with Kumho Ecsta SPT 225/50V-16R
Rear: NA1 NSX front wheels, 15x6.5J with Kumho Ecsta ASX 205/60V-15R

I had to bore out the 'front wheels' (NSX rears) to 70.1mm. When I first fitted the tire-less rim onto the car I was worried that that wheel would be so wide it would bang on the suspension. It was a very tight fit but the wheels worked.

The front of the car has a much wider track than the rear now. I'll get pics up over the weekend but the +55 offset was barely enough to get the wheels just inside the wheel wells (tires/rim are now just out of line of sight from above). I can't imagine how much bigger the contact patch is up front but the wheels are a full inch bigger in diameter and 1.5 inches wider too.

I chose the factory KA7 Legend tire size for the 'rear wheels' instead of the NA1 NSX factory size to reduce the diameter differential between front/rear with staggered wheels. I was worried that it would be clearly obvious that the front wheels were larger than the rear wheels but so far no one has noticed (must be some kinda illusion since the front wheel wells are so much bigger anyways).

I haven't had a chance to really push the handling yet but the car has a pretty strong tendency to oversteer (as expected). The rear wants to pull out but any jab at the accelerator brings it back in line. It seems quite unstable on the edge but that just might be tread squirm because the tires are new. I'll take the car up to the mountains this weekend for pictures and more testing =)

Wow i didn't notice the date until you said 'many years later'
Post pics!
Not every day you see a reverse-staggered rim setup.

NSX and S2000, some minor corrections:

NA1 *91-93 NSX*: F15 x 6.5/R16 x 8.0; F+55/R+60 offset; F70.1mm/R64.1mm; F15.20lbs/R18.26lbs

NA1 *94-96 NSX*: F16 x 7.0/R17 x 8.5; F+55/R+60 offset; F70.1mm/R64.1mm; F16.75lbs/R20.85lbs, painted grey

NA1/NA2 *97-01 NSX*: F16 x 7.0/R17 x 8.5; F+55/R+60 offset; F70.1mm/R64.1mm; F16.75lbs/R20.85lbs, clear coated aluminum

NA1/NA2 *02-05 NSX*: F17 x 7.0/R17 x 9.0 F+55/R+56 offset;
F70.1mm/R64.1mm; Weight Unknown. These wheels are Forged BBS.

AP1 *00-03 S2000*: F16 x 6.5/R16 x 7.5; F+55/R+65 offset; F70.1mm/R64.1mm centerbore; F17.50lbs/R18.60lbs

AP2 *04-05 S2000*: F17 x7.0/R17 x 8.5; F+55/R+60 offset
F70.1mm/R64.1mm centerbore; Weight Unknown, 5 pairs of 2 spokes

AP2 *06-07 S2000*: F17 x7.0/R17 x 8.5; F+55/R+60 offset
F70.1mm/R64.1mm centerbore; Weight Unknown, 10-spoke, symmetrical

I achieved something similar with my car, although not so extreme. I put 225 series tires on the front, and 215 series on the rear on stock 16" LS/GS wheels. Even with the minor difference, the car oversteers much easier.

You seriously have 16x8's on the front and 15x6.5's on the rear...?

No offense, but I can't see that looking good at all. Or driving well, for that matter.

look, yea i'm not so sure it would look good. as far as handling, it shouldn't be effected much at all. i ran this setup b4, with my GS wheels in the front and stock 15's in the back. i didn't feel that much of a difference.

:

I need to see pics of this though.

Wow, three years pass and you end up with larger and wider tires in the front ? I will be completely amazed if the car looks good set up this way, or even handles properly or safely. This must be a first. Good luck, and be very careful driving.

um, its a FWD car, so yea, wider wheels in the front ARE better, more traction. helps reduce understeer. i've ran the exact setup she's running just with stock wheels. it works well.
