Question How hard to change spark plugs??

OK, I am mildly mechanically gifted, and I have a socket set which should have the right size socket, and I have a swivel and other extensions.

Anybody that has done it, are there any plugs that are going to be real difficult to change without additional tools, or a lift? Are there any plugs that are nigh to impossible to get your hands in there?

Thanks much.

everything is point and shoot.

remove the shock tower bar, remove the coil packs, and you're good.

I got mine out without removing the shock tower bar also. It took me about 15 minutes including the gapping of the plugs.Very Easy

Spark Plugs

You don't need any special tools; you don't need to remove the bar either.
Just press and hold the coil pack clip until you hear a click and then pull up; you might only have a little trouble with pulling out one because of the bar but you can play with it and it'll come out (I did it).
once you have all the packs out; you can see the plugs. Get a long extension with a ratchet and a spark plug socket; I think it's a 5/8 but I could be wrong. Get all the plugs out.
If you have a rubber hose that fits on the top end of the spark plug; put it on and start the thread with that so you don't accidently ruin the thread of the spark plug starting it with a ratchet.
Once you feel they're on the thread; switch to ratchet; turn little past snug.
Put coil packs back on and you're done.
Hope that helps.
Here are two of the 6 coil packs in case you're not sure what they look like.

Good Luck although you shouldn't need it; very simple job.

Since you are mildly mechanically inclined, I would suggest you to pay extra attention NOT To damage thread...

If you damage thread while torqueing down the new spart plugs, that means,, you will be in really awkward situation.... So, just pay a little more attention when you screw down the spart plug, tip is do it by your bare hands first than use whatever wrench (torque wrench etc).

It is a lot more worse than messing up with oil drain bolt thread...

Thanks for all the replies!

Well, having changed plugs on cars, motorcycles, and lawn mowers, I actually have quite a bit of experience in that regard, and am not worried about cross-threading the plugs or anything like that. I just was not too sure what all was involved in getting to the plugs.

BTW, I would really like to see your pics, but they are not coming up, just that red X in the box.

For the driver side coil closest to the firewall I would suggest you loosen that end of the strut bar and lift up so as to not bend the boot on the coil IMO. Good luck.

Spark Plugs

Well that's good to hear; you shouldn't have any problems with the plugs then, they're really easy.
I'm not sure why the picture didn't load; either way, here's the link to all those pictures in case you ever feel like doing a head gasket job too.

Red face Confused

OK, I got the traditional NGK plugs from ABC auto parts.

I am confused about the "coil packs". It looks to me like you have to remove the two threaded bolts that run down through the packs, in order to lift them up. I don't see any "coil pack clip". The only clip-like item I see looks to be where the wiring attaches.

I am assuming that the six black blocks that are about 3"X3" are the "coil packs" you are referring to.

Thanks for any help.

Disconnect the harness that connects to the coil pack. Then remove those two bolts that holds the coil back down. Once you got those two out, just pull out the coil back, and you'll be able to access the spark plugs.

Most NGK plugs comes pre-gaped already. Though its never a bad idea to check because during shipping, they can change slightly.
