How to make room for wide tires (KA7)
215/45/17 on lowered KA7 Legend with +42 offset and 7,5" wide rim is a tight fit. But what happens if you put 235/45 tires on those rims? No way those aren't going to fit on a standard lowered legend but with some modifications? Yes, they fit perfectly.
There are different problems with both ends. The rear looks allmost fine but tires rub slighty. Fender roll works fine and the wheel rolls without rubbing. But with heavy load (towing trailer, 3 big guys on a back seat etc.) wheel hits to the inner edge of the fender. This problem could be corrected with sledgehammer. Couple of careful and accurate hits and the bump moves slightly toward the outer edge. No more modifications needed in the back. Notice the nice line between the rim and the fender. 2nd generation sedans have more room in back so the front was more difficult to modify. I'd had to loosen 3 bolts keeping the fender's upper side in position. Then I slided the upper side to it's new position, half an inch outer and made new mounting holes to it with a drill. At the middle and the top (nearest to the windscreen) I actually expand the original holes and not make new ones. I kept it about 8 mm in the middle and 15 mm in front. Before I put the bolts back on I'd had to do one thing more. The bumpers tip is kept in place by 1 bolt connected from engine room through the fender to the bumper. This one have to move outer too and best thing to do that was replace the bolt with longer one and put washers between the body and the fender. I put about 10 mm thickness of washers. Then I put the fender bolts to new mounting holes just made and assembled the whole thing back together. The result looked like this (Notice the big gap between fender and the hood): Next there was a gap to fill. I used parts from my old fenders. The one's that was damaged to the lower part in the crash my car was involved with. I measured the right width and cut the tops apart from the damaged fenders. Next I bolted the parts on and the result was this: Widened fenders. I welded the 2 parts together and put some carbon fiber filler to it. Then i use fine filler to make the surface smooth. Then I put some paint on it and moved to the other side. I later sandpapered the fender couple of times more to make it smooth. Then i put couple of layers paint to it and make the surface ready to painting. Here's couple of pictures after painting. The result shows that wide wheels with +42 offset, lowering and widened fenders looks quite good (in my own opinion at least). There are absolutely no rubbing at all in any conditions after the modification. I'm sure that much wider tires could be used if the offset is higher.

that's come good work, looks very good
but it's a lot of work just to get some low offset rims, why not buy rims with higer offset.

woah, that is some very nice work. Did you do anything about the corner lenses, i mean where they are close to the body, it looked like they are a good inch away after you moved that piece out.
you know you could have just had the wheels bored out to ~45 offset pretty easily. |

dang Ranger...Milled...its milled
im just givin you a hard time, but seirously. A way to remember, bore equals engine cylinder...circular...to bore means to widen so widen circle...Mill means to take away...think about Mills Lane...no hair...Mill means to take away![]() BUT i REALLY like that idea...maybe in finland they dont have machine shops on every corner like you do up there in Oklahoma...DURR:p PLUS it look WAY hotter for leegnd to have wide tires not pizza-cutters. and to widen the legend is hotness anyways...LOOKS REALLY GOOD Sput ![]() Nothing but love over here ![]() ![]() Im gonna stickie this for those that wonder if 20"s can be fit or what to do with legend when you want lower offset wheels. THanks for this EXCELLENT write up and great pictures Sput .

Nice work! I'm wondering if you could give us a couple more hints as to what year your car is? I see 91-93 Emblems (Legend on the upper right) but a 94-95 front bumper (but not really, because the lower grill is shorter than my 95 bumper) with headlight washer nozzles? And also I notice your headlights look like 2 piecers? Correct me if I'm wrong. I'd love to see more pictures of your car, especially if you have the Navi =)
