95,000.
I should also mention that I am a huge proponent of preventive maintenance. I have probably spent about as much preventing a BHG as I could have spent to repair one. But, IMO, that's a better way to go about it -- it's all about peace of mind. This summer I had every hose associated with the cooling system replaced (22 in all) as well as a complete system flush and overall checkup. The Legend is far too temperamental to risk having any cooling system failures. Maintenance > Modifications. |

I'm at 120k miles now and I had a BHG at 104k due to the idiots that owned it before me installed a switch that turns my fans on and didn't tell me about it. Needless to say, on a hot day, stuck in traffic, and I didn't know about the fan switch. $3k later and my car is running great
Now I keep my coolant in check and do all the proper maintance...

well my hg blew aka started seeping at about 250,000 miles which is where its at now. when i bought the car the speedo claimed the car was at 164,000 but after recently looking at a carfax report on it the mileage on it in the yr 2000 was at 195,000. so im sure at about that time the gauge went bad so whoever had it just put in another gauge that was at 164,000. anyway the original hg lasted for 250,000 miles. just be sure to take care of ur shit properly.

I'm at 162,XXX and absolutely NO HEADGASKET ISSUES!!! I haven't done anything crazy like Tyson though
. All my hoses are in-tact. What I have done is kept up on cooling system maintenance. I drain/fill/bleed mine twice a year regardless of mileage. And the temperature has always been a notch below the half-way mark.

This is quite possibly the most sage advice I've seen on this forum in quite a while.
--- I'm at 144K w/o any HG issues. I believe in silicate-free coolant but NOT Honda coolant. While I do spend a premium on Honda brake fluid, Honda AT fluid, and Honda PS fluid, the more expensive Prestone (Extended Life) works just fine for me. Only coolant related issues I've encountered: * low coolant -> traced to torn seal on radiator cap -> replaced w/ Prestone radiator cap. This one did give me a scare because the heat started creeping up. Luckily I parked immediately and was able to address the problem. After 20K mi, it looks like I missed the BHG bullet on this one. * Varying idle -> traced to low coolant -> traced to water pump leaking from weep hole.

They were idiots. They drilled a damn screw through my front bumper to hold the lic plate holder on, drilled another screw into the lower dash piece to keep it from falling down, plus they did a half-assed job at repairing some damage from a wreck that my legend was in. Luckily i got rearended and it all got repaired properly.
It's a work in progress to fix all the shit that the idiots did to my car. I think my car is thanking me that I took over ownership ![]()

Just something to throw out there. I've replaced 8 head gaskets on Legends and none of them had less than 120,000 miles.

Surefire ways to keep your original headgasket:
1. Use Honda coolant--nothing else 2. Ensure perfect operation of cooling system I've got 160k on mine. ![]()
