How would i value my JDM console for insurance purposes?

i am going to go into my insurance company probably this coming week and insure all my stereo/speakers/dvd headunit/screen/amps/sub/cap/etc. how would i go about putting a value on my jdm wood center console just in case it gets damaged? and also the jdm climate control? would i just let it get valued if something happens? just get it quoted as the OEM console since thats like $1200 or something ridiculous like that brand new from factory... i've got a $500 deductable so if someone goes in there and jacks up my install and takes screen, headunit, amps, etc, i'm looking at around 1200-1500 not including console and climate control.

any tips?

How much do you have into it. You might be able to count labor for the install.

the console was 245 with climate control and it was like 17 hours of labor to install it and its not even done... how can i value it without proof of costs of labor and what not.

let's just say you shoudl probably be happy if you get anythng for it.... if's it's stolen....

you would have to get it covered outside your insurance... that is the best way...

my insurance company insures stuff like aftermarket parts... so why wouldn't they insure the console?

They might not because its factory eqip. but if you explain to them the signifigance of that setup in the US they should cover it. I would sit down with your agent.

yeah... kinda what i meant... is just with most insurance companies they what you to think that they cover you but when it comes down to it they won't... (experience)

so what i want you to know it make sure they say they will do it on paper and have them take a pic and have a copy... as for teh labor unless you can prove a certain amount you will not get it... you would have to prove that your time is worth this certain amount... which is near impossible and then you would have to have some sort of invoice....

as for your jdm stuff just make sure you keep all reciepts.... cause if you don't have it don't even bother going to them... they won't care...(my experience)

so yeah.... i hoently hope you will never need to worry about it cause your set up is sooOOOoooooOOoo nice... but memeber be care...

from what i know they insurace will put a lower value on it then you say but just show them the receipt and make sure you have it on paper if no they can always mess you up... trust....

hope i didn't come off ignorant before or now... i just want you to keep you unit unless you want to sell one day just let me know hahahaha.... late!

would it be better to just ignore the jdm parts? and if it gets damaged or stolen, it will just be counted as an OEM part? then to get it brand new from the dealer, they would assume i would be replacing it with brand new for 1200.

but i will bring them printouts of the stereo system for value. and i have reciepts for probably like half of it. so the rest i'll have to print out off the internet from trusted websites for value i guess. but i will sit down and speak with my agent and make sure full value for aftermarket parts is printed out in my file and i get a copy too.

oh and i doubt i'll be selling this setup anytime soon sorry

hahahha yeah.... honestly the best thing to do is get an acutall value ont he product... and if you are tryignt o go for the oem approach make sure they dont' take pics... cause if they do they will give yout he value they think it's worth...

and it's always good to get a high extimate so that if it comes down to it and they take a few bucks off you shoudl still be gettinga a good amount bad...

but member to get everything on paper that's liek teh best thing you can do at this point...

I'd think twice about adding all that stuff. I just had my car totalled by the insurance company because of the center console (part #77296-sp0-a30zb. $1966.33) and radio equipment. No exterior damage.

if you want to be insured to cover the aftermarket stuff you have, the insurance company will be happy to do it for you. Just make sure it's ALL in writing and be ready to pay extra for the coverage.

IMO, you will get raped in Insurance premiums for that stuff. My rates are high enough. If I started adding the Remus, TL-S wheels, new leather, EDM lights and a soon to be system, I would be SCREWED. I say, take your chances if rates are high by you.

rates aren't bad at all. i'm a 'secondary driver' on the car. i pay $50 a month for 300/100/300 coverage. also i just added all the stereo stuff. upped the aftermarket parts value on my car to 1500. it added 4 bucks a month

so i'm fine with that. if i get my radio stuff jacked and center console broken, it'll prob be in the 2500-3000 dollar damage range... i would assume that they would total the car don't know tho i'll have to just hope for the best.

what happens if they do total the car? can i get the money and buy the car back and have money left over? or how does that work? i've never filed an insurance claim with a car before.

yeah if they total it, they let you buy it back, most of the time its like 300-600 depending on the value of the car and ins co, so they will ask you to send them the title and they will send you a check for the value-the buy back, and then u'll get the title back in the mail.

If the total of the damages is more than 75% (for my insurance) of the car's total worth, then they will call it a total loss. . Then they'll give you what the market value on the car is.(what you might expect to find it for if you're buying a car with the same mileage.)
Then what they'll do is inspect the car and do an appraisal on it and depending on the present mileage and condition of your car, they'll give you the salvaged price of the car.
So at the end, you buy the car (salvaged price) + deductible and they'll give you the difference from the market value.
Did I make sense?
