That's the right part. No you don't change "key" part of it. I'd buy new though because it's a pain to squeeze under the dash to get that bad boy out. Do it right the first time I say.

When you say ignition switch, what part are you referring too?
Apparently the tumbler itself can be changed. I talked to a locksmith today who had a machine that can recreate a 'new' key from a worn out original. He showed me how they come apart, not hard at all.
He said if the key didn't work out he can change the tumbler (guts of the switch) and key it to the original key. This is for the 'UK' Legend, the new key works fine.
About $30 if I carry the switch in to him.
I thought you had to buy the whole switch.

i swapped out the switch on mine about 2 years ago, no big problem. it was a slight pain getting a screw driver in there, but not to hard to do at all. no you don't need to replace the 'key' mechanism

Typically, it is the electrical portion of the switch which fails. The assy is installed using one-time tamper proof bolts whose heads are designed to shear off when tightened. This leaves only a collar and small portion of remaining bolt. In order to remove an assy you need to grind a slot into the remaining portion of the bolt and/or collar or destroy the assy. You then purchase a new assy and have a locksmith rekey it to the old key or remove the locks from doors trunk and glove box and them rekeyed to the new ignition key. Acura also used to sell a rekeyed set which included ignition, doors, trunk and glove box lock cylinders.

That's a lot of work. My dealer is charging $230 in labor, but everything would match. Is that worth it?

Guys just take the switch apart and clean the contacts by sanding then wipe clean with rubbing alcohol. It's been 4 months for me w/o a problem. Save that $$ for some remus
I'll post some pics soon

used metal dishwashing sponge and ethanol(alcohol)

before cleaning

After cleaning

I didn't even disconnect the harness. Just disconnected the battery. Then dive under the dash and unscrew the switch. Becareful with tabs though I broke one but still good.

switch is different from key hole. Switch itself freely rotates. If you change the keyhole you're gonna have two sets of keys... one for ignition and one more for doors/trunk.. you dont want that... so just remove the dash cover under steering wheel and lay on your back and go under. There are 3 screws I think

What did you cut?
Did mine and didn't cut anything. And while you are at it, take the main relay out and resolder the joints.

Theres quite a bit of current running through that switch, I wouldn't recommend cleaning it if you plan on keeping the car long.
