Intrest in a Y-pipe exhaust setup?
Hello,
I visited the FAQ section and I did not see anything as far as rules on what you can and cant post so hopefully im not out of line. IF so some one please PM me. I had a customer come in today with and exhaust he wanted me to put on. I asked him if he would let me make my own system on it and he said sure. I noticed the biggest killer on the exhaust was the Y-pipe. When i took his cat system off I noticed that the pipe that connects the the cat was 2" or less! Im wondering if you guys would be interested in me making a y-pipe setup, it will include the cat portion too in order for me to make it right? OH yeah, everything will be mandrel bent, not muffler shop crush bent work. On the customers car I went ahead and canned the cat. I hate donut flanges so I went ahead and made a better setup. I made a new flange that bolts up to the donut setup and used solid bolts vs the spring bolts. I then went ahead and put a nice flex section in it. Thanks! Here is the test pipe i made. I wish i would have taken a pic of that Y-pipe outlet! Vroom vroom. Mind you this is no cat in the system, with a cat it will be milder and a tad less raspy but regardless i was happy with it and it pulled nice!. maybe ill put a resonator in it or maybe a single 4" tip hmm? How would you merge the Y together?
There have been a ton of Y pipes made here but nothing consistant as of the past couple of years. If you can build one for stock exhaust manifold (which you already have) and another type for the OBX headers(their Y pipe's merge is shitty) then you'll get plenty of business. People will want mandrel bent, smooth collecting merge and choice of alumanized, steal or stainless. We know exactly what diameters work the best. Provide all that and you got customers. When you setup a buy do it in the market place please. ~Dv8

yea I need a new Y-pipe...my ole Dv8 Y was hacked down to fit in the OBX headers (I built my exhaust backwards, headers last, lol). And now that Y-pipe is getting on my nerves....I just want a new fresh one to slap in
too bad you're so far...but it's good to see an exhaust guy on here

Wow your not too far away. When I finally get the OBX headers, I'll probably head down so you can tidy up my existing exhaust.

Whats that?
Here is some of my work: Index of /exhaust Here is one of my Y-pipes http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c..._1992_10244715 http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c...t_1992_4466158 I dont know how involved I want to get but the truth is tht today was the first time i did a performance system for a legend. I dont know about making a setup for the obx system. As of now ill just make something for the stock manifold. Making a 2.25" pipe coming off each head merging into a 2.5" will flow way better vs Having a two 2" pipes merging into a 2" collector like the stock setup is. |

What prices are we talking about for the y-pipe to the muffler shipped?

I have to see how much is involved in making the Y pipe assembly. This is the stock setup: Manifold, Y-pipe, meow/offroad pipe, midpipe then axel back. What i have done so far is the Meow/offroad pipe, midpipe and axel back. The offroad pipe, midpipe and axel back your looking at only $500 right now as an intro. Ill have to make a ypipe setup that bolts up right to the catback system. Right now ill have to redo my offroad pipe if i make a Ypipe for it. |

Market place is a section of the forum, you may have to post a while before you can sell anything there. I cant say that i'm fond of that Y pipe or collector. It does the job, but Ive seen far better and thats what a lot of people want here, For example: ![]() ![]() Now thats a collector and Y pipe. 3.2 engines Y legs should be no bigger than 2.0 ID->2.5 ID collector 3.5 engines 2.25 ID legs->2.5 ID collector. Stock is not 2.0 ID. It maybe hard to find pipes with true inside diameters, but its out there. Ive done the dyno work. ~Dv8

IM not looking to make the best system out there, just looking to make something better than stock. The new evo x and the caliber srt4 im going all out on though.
IM yet to see exhaust tubing thats ID vs OD. Schedual pipe is ID not exhaust tubing. Oh yeah, that y pipe up top is easier to do. I dont make them like that though because i need the legs to be straight because customers need the legs tight together for their custom installs (when they purchase a Y). The one you showed up top comes in at an angle and you cant do that style and make it straight. Last edited by Exhaust Depot : 03-13-08 at 01:29 AM. |

Hello everyone. I really am digging the system. I am also sure that Hector has hooked me up. I think the exhaust system sounds great. I would love to hear what others think of the sound. very happy with flow. wish a couple of other local legend owners with nice exhaust sytems would meet up with Hector and me so we could hear other setups. ....Hector THANK YOU!!! and anytime you want to use my car for testing on just give me a call and i will shot on over. Again i would love to hear what other A-L members think of the youtube vid.
