JDM Engine Vrs Repairing Original Engine

I really want a better understanding of why people choose to install a JDM Engine instead of repairing there original engine.

I've actually seen a JDM Engine delivered to a company here that was covered in Rust, but it only had "30,000" miles supposedly.........

Aside from that, cost and knowledge of the engine is why I am asking.

From my understanding you get a JDM and you have an engine with a "supposed" 25,000 to 35,000 miles on it.

Most people I have seen here then proceed to do Timing Belt, Water Pump, etc... and sometimes Head Gaskets.

Then there is the labor for installing it......

I personally just don't see the point of picking up an engine for $600.00 that I know nothing about, dumping $400 to $1,200 worth of parts on it, then spend 8 to 16 hours installing it when I could repair the engine in the car and know the overall current condition of it and all parts...

Just wanting to understand the point of it.

i dont see it either, unless you got from TYPE I to TYPE II, replacing it is pointless imo.

of course it is all relative to what is wrong with your original as well. If timing belt snapped, n pistons/valves collide.......

But if it is the normal, HG...i wouldn't do a new engine.

I should have clarified that better. There are extreme circumstances (such as massive damage from a timing belt snap, piston/rocker bar through the block, etc...) that would cause a definitive cost effectiveness for an engine swap.

What I was more referring to is a BHG and other misc. issues that I keep seeing people swap engines over.

mostly its because the engine will have less wear and its pretty easy to do timing and HG then the engine is not in the car. because its only a few hours of work as aposted to 12-20hours of work to the the gaskets and since you already have the timing out might as well do it. then if the engine is in good condition then you have a alot more solid engine.
