Ok, as the title says, I'm looking for help/suggestions. I just finished pulling this complete assembly/system out of a KA8. I will be going back today to search for the source of the blue coupler and a single red/white wire (I'm pretty sure the single wire is a power source from the fuse box/junction block). The other 7 cut wires are for speakers (4wires) and the auto power antenna(3wires)...those are not a problem. I had stated in a different thread that I would try to figure out how to get this working for a USDM vehicle....I think I might have spoken too soon. That was before I got a good hard look at it. But, like I said, I'm going back today to check out the details and questions marks...

My problem is...what to do with these parts. Should I put it up for sale as a complete set (navi system hasn't been check yet) or should I sell the trim/console pieces seperately from the navi system? Doing that would mean that I would either have to NOT include the couplers to the back of the clock and navi switch on the dash bezel OR I would have to cut the wires from the navi system harness in order to include them with with the bezel. Either way, someone is getting short handed.

I'm looking for serious suggestions, please.... I'm not trying to figure out the best way to get the most money but rather the best way to deal with these parts in a way that would help the most people or just simply be the best way to go. I need to get some sleep, so I'll explain the confusing pics, later. I just wanted get the ball rolling....

I agree with Willie, do not part out keep trying to make this work. I have 2 JDM Navi Consoles, one of which I'm installing in my Legend, the other I will sell here on forum. All I need are the metal brackets and I have completed both of mine not including OEM NAVIGATION SYSTEM, I will use LCD.

If you can make that navigation system work for a USDM vehicle, that would be so awesome.

..and yea I second that, I took some pics from here for my Legend Archive.

Hey Don, awesome find, and an awesome job on your removal - looks like everything-but-everything is in tact, as close to 'Plug-N-Play' as we've ever seen!! Now if you can just figure out how to re-program / or replace the Bios, or Flash Chip, (or whatever is used in the NAVI), you'll have the market cornered on complete JDM Navigation system swaps.!!

Ok. I see that everyone is leaning towards the full set. I'll see what I can do on figuring out the remaining wiring...it's looking tough, though.

This is the second complete set-up that I have come across. I actually left the navi system in the car for that last complete console/trim setup that I had sold ebay. I just didn't have the time to deal with it.

As for the pictures, that was one of the reasons why I posted all of these pics...so that someone could make some kind of archive, here. If I had the time, I would do it myself, but....busy busy busy.

I'll report back to this thread once I get more info (or totally bomb out on getting any more info...).

Theres only one problem... the navigation is accelerometer based and only has maps for japan, not to mention the interface is in Japanese. Even if someone did buy all that and put it in a USDM legend here in the states... it'd be worthless. It might be worthless in japan with how old the maps are. Furthermore... its an accelerometer... it is not a satellite based navigation, even in Japan, it would be prone to miscalculation.

I think OEM is the best look. I just don't happen to think any of the various arrangements of OEM got it exactly right all at once

with this said that is true but i dont really care for navi system but others would like to have this and hook it up just to say they have a working one or for me i would love to have this just to put away with some other rare jdm and other rare auto part i collect!

The navi console setup looks identical to the 99-03 TL's system. Maybe you can just swap it for one of those. It would still say Acura....

Ok, you all are either going to LOVE me for this or HATE me for this....50 new pics....a little brighter than the last ones, but still a bit fuzzy...I took these with my phone. Also, I'm in my truck right now, so I won't be able to get the last 4 or 5 pics up until I get back home...I left the house as I was uploading the pics to my server so I'm assuming that it timed out just before the last pics uploaded.

So, this thread is going to be a killer for the slower connections...sorry. Be patient.

I've went to the car yesterday to check on some wiring details. I ended up doing a bit of checking AND doing a bit of pulling. The first few pics show what was pulled...the complete in-dash harness that the blue coupler from the NAVI connecta to. This is as about as far as I can go with the actual NAVI system. I don't have time to explain all of the pics right now (gotta get to work) so I will do some explaining later today. I would like people to comment there views a bit more concerning what pinyix had said. He makes some good points about maps and the Japanese interface. If you wanted to actually use this in it's entirety, you would have to get digital maps of the areas of your preference (probably non-existent in the format needed for this system...whatever it may be) and you would have to figure out how to hack into the displays front end to change the fonts to English (I'm just throwing out ideas/thoughts...I could be totally wrong and what I am saying could be a bunch of BS...I just can't say, honestly.

Also, the monitor DOES HAVE TOUCH SCREEN CONTROLS. I just read through the article dealing with the NAVI system portion of the Legend. This article is part of the NOV '90 issue of the KA7/8 dedicated Japanese ''MotorFan'' magazine.

I need everyone to chime in on what pinyix stated. Give me your opinions...I wonder if I can make this a poll, or not? It will effect those of you who are interested in obtaining either the console/trim portion or the navi system, or both.

EDITED WITH EXPLANATIONS:

This is the complete harness that I removed from under the dash. It goes from the couplers behind the JDM passenger side kick panel(which in turn go to the ECU, I believe) over to the couplers on the other side of the vehicle (drivers side) that run into the fuse box/junction block. Along it's kick panel>>junction block journey (this is a chronilogical trip in the order of the pics), it finds some a/c couplers (I didn't look carefully enough, but I think they're for the controllers that move the arms for air flow control), the sensors on the top-front of the dash (I believe they are light (heat, also?) sensors for the a/c...to tell it when the blazing sun is a shinin'..., I believe the small box you see is the 'slow the hell down you crazy dingalingalingaling...!!' dinger box (could be wrong, of course), then it takes a detour for the scenic view of the A/C control harness/coupler(green) after which it continues on to a blue coupler which in turn connects to the blue coupler on the NAVI main harness mentioned in the first post. From there it goes to the JDM gauge cluster couplers, the NAVI clock coupler (small blue one) and the switches surrounding the cluster. Then back down to the valley of the junction box under the drivers side dash on the side...

















The dash harness hooked up to the NAVI and A/C....



Here you can see this dash harness connected to the a/c controls. You may also notice that this whole particular coupler/harness has been extended along with another 2pin coupler (blule and black wires). Why?, you ask...I have no idea why....I just work here. You can also see it connected to the main NAVI harness (blue coupler). You can also see the main NAVI harness coupler connected to the head unit (gray coupler) and the CRT display (the 2 gray couplers all wrapped in warm fuzzy brown blankets for the evil tropical winters that we have here).



note: after removing this dash harness, I removed the center console and a/c controls from a different KA8 without NAVI and compared the green a/c couplers (to check for any differences between JDM NAVI and non-NAVI wiring). I found 1 wire in the NAVI coupler that was not present in the non-navi coupler. It is this light blue wire. It runs up to one of the gray couplers that you can see in the third pic of this post...shown in detail, here:










In this next pic, notice how I've slightly pulled apart/seperated the wires that are on the dash harness...the ones that are coming from the blue coupler.

This is to show that about half of the wires from the main NAVI harness blue coupler run to the left (JDM passenger side) side of the harness and the remaining run to the right.



Here you can see the small blue coupler going to the NAVI trim clock...



Here are some close-up shots to show you details and the imperfections of the console assembly...







The lines that you can see don't seem to be cracks in the wood, just in the lacquer finsih.





The top of the armrest has seen better days...but the inside is in good condition.





This lid has the (sshhhhhh!!!...) secret JDM credit card slot.



And this armrest has the wood trim around the rear lighter.



The two screw holes for the top of the a/c controls are broken (same as the last set that I had...common problem it would seem) but with the head unit installed, it is all help in place with the bottom screws of the head unit.





Ok, breaks over! Back to the wiring!..The main NAVI harness goes to the back of the vehecle after splitting into left and right sections. On the right (JDM drivers side) side section there are 3 wires coming from the NAVI harness that run over to and splice into 3 wires leading to the large gray coupler which goes back to the tail lights(this large gray coupler is on ALL Legends). The yellow/white and green/red wire eventually lead to the antenna control unit and the green/black wire leads to the left tail light(I'm not sure what the purpose of the tail light connection is...but, like I said...I just work here).



The 4 bundled/twisted wires are to the rear speakers. The white/red wire goes to the junction box for 12V+(I'm unsure if this is constant 12V, 'ACC' ON 12V or 'IGN' ON 12V). The brown wire (which actually turns into white near the coupler and also has the green/black wire spliced into it and running back to the coupler) is not used. It has no pins/wires on the other side of the coupler going to the NAVI system.





Look at fuse slot #3 on the right side of this fuse layout diagram. It is for a 20A fuse and says (Navigation Telephone). I believe THIS is where the white/red wire is heading.



The left half (JDM passenger side) leads to 2 round couplers that connect to the amp (top most component in the stack of 3 components).





Here you can see the TV antennas which have clips going to the rear window and also antennas that extend up to the roof under the roof panel.

The components consist of (from top to bottom) the audio amp, gasrate sensor, TV tuner...

Then, on the bottom of the rack is the MMI Unit and INS/LOC unit.

The wires for the seat heater switches and rear lighter are all cut AFTER the couplers for cleaner installations.



The cd changer was already removed from the vehicle when I got to it. I am includng this cd changer which was removed from a 94 Honda Accord wagon. All of these honda/alpine/gathers cd changers from that time have the same connectors.





And here is the complete assembly all cuddled up in a loving group hug....



Oh, there is one other thing that I forgot to post pics of...this cable was not hooked to anything, but was running from the center console all the way to the back. It looks too bulky to be for just a phone (even for 1991-1995...but who knows) which makes me think that this could possibly be the cable for the option fax machine that some of you may have seen pictures of from a JDM Honda Legend Honda Access Catalog that I had....but, it's just a guess. This is also included.







Ok, I believe that is all that I wanted to do right now was put in some explanations and re-arrange some of the pics. This should be much easier to follow, now. I'm still hoping for MANY MANY MANY more opinions. Let's hear it guyz and galz!!!
