Did mine earlier this month and no its not from black to tan but from very dirty tan to new tan lol. I pick up some of that material at Joanns ($4 for the yard) its a little lighter than my interior but its clean.

i used a glue gun to do my old car's with black speaker fabric from joann's. I've been to lazy to do my current car's.. although i already removed them.

Parting out a 91 L 5-speed, let me know if you need any parts besides engine and 5-speed parts. The car is Rosewood brown with type E cloth interior.

As a sound nerd I have to jump in here....
The fabric sold at Joanne's is not acoustically transparent, so you will lose some output from your speakers...Probably not enough for the average person to notice, but like I said I'm a sound quality nerd, lol.

For anyone that cares, heres some transparent cloth:
