K&N Short Ram or Ingen Short Ram Intake?

I am now looking to install an Intake on my 94 GS but cannot decide which one I would benefit most from.

I have the K&N short ram on my 91 LS but its being sold with the car. My personal experiences with it was that I thought it was a great setup but am curious to see if there is anything better out there. From what I understand I can use the ebay intake with the K&N cone filter but will have to cut the end of the pipe a few inches to compensate for the TCS.

My questions are...
-Is the Ingen any better than the K&N? Price wise its almost double than the K&N, so it better be good! lol

-Does ingen make a TCS specific intake or will I have to buy their non TCS intake and modify it? Could the modification be done? Its got a weird bend to it.

Here are the two I am considering...

K&N..http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Acura...84133276QQrdZ1

Ingen.....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/INJEN...85355877QQrdZ1

If anyone can add there 2c that would be great! Also if anyone here knows where to get them cheaper than what I am currently considering, then please get at me.

Thanks

No one's ever been able to covince me that it's the extra $100 for the Injen. All you're paying for is a weird looking intake that's name brand.

I personally just have an el-cheapo Ebay SRI. I bought a 3" 90degree bend off Ebay that I'm going to use to make it into a true CAI, I just haven't had the time.

If I was you, I'd buy the K&N intake, since you liked it before, and also buy a 90degree bend pipe to make it into a CAI. That's where you'll see the most gains.

Yea, I kind of remeber something about the short ram Vs. the CAI on another thread way back when, but did not remeber anything about a comparison between the two and whether or not the NON TCS could be fabbed to fit the TCS.

I was thinking the same thing about just sticking with the K&N and turning it into a CAI. I'm sure with the wacky shaped Ingen intake the CAI conversion will not be possible.

I am correct about being able to buy the ebay intake and trimming it down a few inches from the straight end in order to fit the TCS, right?

Yeah, with the shape of the Injen, I don't think it's possible to get it to be a CAI. Even if you ran it as a short ram, I personally can't justify spending $180 on a piece of shiny aluminum that I can get for $20...

And yesssir, the intakes will fit just fine if you trim them down. I don't have TCS, but I've seen it done many times.

Good luck on whatever you decide to go with!

I like the fit finish and carb legality of my Injen. With a 45 degree coupler and the original ebay intake it can be converted to CAI.

People around here are whole heartedly against it but have you considered the WeaponR SW?

I'll say that the stupid thing whistles like mad on my car (and I was recently told by WeaponR that "it just does that" and they "can't figure it out") but I don't know if that's a universal experience and they claim gains beyond that of your average SRI.

Also, Thai.95LCoupe apparently has 1 CAI left (though, you'd have to buy the filter) - I've had my eye on it but my cash flow is shot so someone should pick it up!
Gen 2 Legend Coupe/Sedan SMG Dense Air Inhalation System TCS & Non-TCS Units Avalible

Personally, I woudln't spend the $$ on the injen SRI (though, I'd consider the old CAI if I could find one) - at least WeaponR claims to have done some research and you can see it (there's clearly a velocity stack inside the pipe - whether or not it makes a difference is open to discussion).

For a filter, I'm inclined to agree - WeaponR's filters apparently flow better but I'm skeptical. I just trust K&N more.

For a pipe - it doesn't matter but WeaponR has the velocity stack which I'll at least give the benefit of the doubt over a conventional pipe.

I still want a real CAI though... I wish I'd bought one in the first place (especially since my WeaponR whistles - I haven't tried to clean the throttle body yet or anything though so it could just be realted to that...)

That first link to ebay is a little too much. Yea youre getting a K&N filter but youre getting a generic pipe. You can save yourself a few bucks by buying those $9 ones that have $20 shipping. Then you have an alright air filter with the same pipe youre getting on that first link. Later just buy the K&N for like $30 or less on ebay too. Ive seen another injen intake for legends. It gets wavy when it nears where the intake box initialy was. I think that was the one made for the TCS models but I could be wrong. Do some research on those CAI kits though.....

best intake for a legend

ebay intake with crappy filter= $30
real K&N filter= $60
3" 90degree bent pipe= $25
Knowing that your intake alone added 50WHP!= Priceless

(ok the last part was a joke but its the best intake for cheap)

are any of these intakes worth it if you aren't matching them with an exhaust upgrade?

sure

they still add some pick up and of course, the sound (if you're into that sort of thing)
