koni red shocks?

I've been sorting through many issues with my 92 coupe, mostly working to get the car completely stable mechanically. I am focusing on my suspension in the coming weeks and had the car up on a lift the other day.

I wanted to see what type of shocks I've got, and they turn out to be koni reds in the front and oem in the back.

I don't really like the ride of the car though, its much "floatier" and has more body roll then my 91 sedan (all stock with relatively young shocks, maybe 30,000 miles?).

Are the koni's worth keeping? Can I adjust them? It seems to be the case based on Koni's site, but I'm not clear on this. Just wanted anyone's two cents on the koni reds.

Thanks!

At the moment I hate mine, but I will have them Adjusted, when I first put mine on they killed my neck... They are not really meant for NYC driving.... One, you have to make sure that you have Koni Sports, they can be adjusted, if you have basic Red's, I really don't think that they can be adjusted.... Not too sure on that, I think Corrie has the Plain reds and they cannot be adjusted.... Have them checked out and good luck...

Koni reds can be adjusted for both height (3 perch settings on front, 2 on rears) and ride (twisting top mount between full soft and full hard). This, however, cannot be adjusted once mounted. They have to be unmounted to adjust anything. Mine are on full soft, but the ride is still a bit stiffer than OEM, but not that harsh at all.

Do not put them on soft if you are NY/NJ driving, you will regret it 100%.......

lol! I feel you on the NY/NJ driving, I'll have to check the settings when I can and see where their at...

I love my 91s handling on the oem shocks, it just sits down through turns, so I have been a little surprised to feel the coupe breaking loose on turns and it is too wobbly for my taste on our messed up roads... Drives beautiful on parkway and turnpike tho!!

Don't get me wrong, the Koni's are amazing on smooth roads and highways... Much better than OEM for sure, but when it comes to potholes, forget about it..... For the Koni's to be turned on all the way soft, you MUST not have any potholes in your area..... When I first put mine on, I had them on full soft, The ride coming back to NYC was amazing, felt right, felt good until I stepped into the City, my neck almost broke on the first pothole hit, it hit so hard the battery cable came loose and the car shut off on me..... I kid you not, it really happened and members on this forum can swear to it.....

I will be raising my purch once I make it back to the Legend Doctor...lol
So far, I have them on Medium an dit has been okay, but I will see how they feel on Hard with full purch.....

Goodluck man

LMAO!!! That actually is the kind of fears I have been developing when hitting bumps, I keep thinking, "this CAN'T be good for the car"

My coupe was titled in CT, so I am guessing the owner didn't have so many bumps to contend with...

So it obviously depends upon what you think is bad. We've got a lot of potholes in Indy (not as many as Pennsylvania or NYC, but bad since the current city administration seems not to want to fix them). I had my Konis on full hard and "bad" to me was tooth rattling responses to potholes and seams, while full soft reduced that considerably. So if you like spinal shock, full hard is for you in NYC.

The full spine rattling was when I had them on full soft with the OEM springs.... Trust me, The pot holes where you are at will not be the same here as NYC. The potholes here are every where... City streets and Highways as well as free ways, and when I say pot holes, I am talking about holes big enough to swallow your whole car in a second.... When I had them placed on Medium, it helped out alot but it still killer....

But, to each is own and it is a matter of testing it out to one's liking....
