KSports Spring Rate Question
Bros, I need your opinions on this one. Finally got around today to installing the KSports that I bought on that first GB that Roger@PTR did. My understanding is that the spring rates for that GB were 13/9 as opposed to the other GBs where it's been 13/7 & before you ask, I've got all four shocks turned to full soft. After installing them, my initial impression is that the front is pretty damn stiff but not horrible but the rears are just flat ass-shattering. It just jumps all over the place--any dip or tar strip just rocks the car. I've talked to Brad at Neverenough Auto about some softer springs but am kind of at a loss as to what to get. I want a ride that's kind of in the middle---smooth ride but retain the good handling.
In Christian's thread, I saw where he originally wanted 10/8 but really got 13/7 which is actually what Brad recommended, just going from a 9 to a 7 on the rears. Given the kind of ride I want, what would you guys recommend? Brad says he can get a 10/8 if I want it but I'm really thinking about an 11/7 setup. I told Brad I'd call him back tomorrow so if ya'll could give me your input today, I'd really appreciate it. BTW, I'm having to get a SPC camber kit as well--with a 2 finger gap, my RF is a -1.9. ![]()

Nah, put 'em on the GBP Coupe along with some gunmetal 17" Nippon F2s. Looks sick, feels like I'm riding a mule right now. Pics when I get all of the shit together & get her cleaned up.

Alex, everything's as tight as a tick and I went back thru that thread of Roger's and he mentioned several times that they were 13/9. Dv8 even said he asked for a 10/6 and the engineer sent him a 13/7 because he knew that a 10/6 would blow the shock. Do you think an 11/7 would be a good setup? I've got a PM into Christian to ask what he thinks.

From what Ive been told, Legend are 13F 7R.
Should say on the box. I have my rear full hard and its not what you describe yours like. Of course its all subjective, but I doubt we are that far off. To me it sound like there may be a problem. The Ksports are in no way soft like konis, they are stiff or stiffer like riding in a sport BMW or G35. The installation in the rear is straight forward, remove the entire original shock and spring as a whole and replace with the ksport unit. I'm not sure what to tell you other than snap a few pics for us to see. Maybe the shock is defective. Jack the rear up and then release, watch its reaction at full soft then full hard Is it possible that the fronts got put in the rear? The base of the units screw off completley. Maybe the bases got swapped somehow. Find out if theres some identifier on the spring as it relates to spring rate. ~Dv8

Christian, I've looked and there's nothing on the box or springs. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place---where is it? In any case, it's obviously way, way stiffer than what I'm used to and maybe that's a lot of it. I still may go softer on the springs, like an 11/6 or a 11/7 and see what that does. I really think I have a 9 on the rear because it's damn near as stiff as the front.

okay, let me ask you this, the top nuts under the speakers, did u check their tightness with the wheels on the ground or in the air? i'd recommend tightening those when the rear end is on the ground.

On the ground. We had to lower the car on the lift and tighten the 3 top nuts because we couldn't get the shock bolt to line up & go in until we did.

13/9 is fucking harsh.....thats not even driveable over here in NYC..... I think thats where my JIC's were around on my old maxima.....I'd go down to a 10/5 or something

See, that's kind of what I'm thinking. Seems like the variance between the rates is a factor of 5 so I'm thinking an 11/6. Alex, didn't you get like a 12/6?

I'm thinking that Ksport sent the same springs to everyone, whether Roger told us differently or not. I know their stance is that the springs are matched to the damper valving, and I don't know if I would send out springs that didn't match...just for liablity sake.
With that being said, I also got my Ksports from Roger's GB, and the rear is pretty harsh - much harsher than the fronts. I have my rears on full soft and the fronts on 1.5 turns and it seems to be fairly even with no "bucking" over bumps from different rates. It's still pretty stiff for daily driving, but I've gotten used to it. SR - mine seems to get better with more weight in the car, so maybe throw a box in the trunk or some sand bags or something and see if that works to smooth it out for you.

Something else---I still have the back deck/speakers/rear seat out so I'm definitely hearing more noise than normal. It was doing this yesterday with 4 OEM shocks & springs so I don't know how much weight that was. Maybe I need to add some ballast like a F1 car.
