last request for help...

Before I change out the differential.

I have a rumbling/growling sound coming from the front end only when turning left on my 6-speed Coupe. So far I've replaced the axles...and thinking I may have gotten a bad one... replaced the right side axle again with a raxle. I replaced the right hub bearing. I've checked the balljoints. Today, I replaced the intermediate shaft bearing. The noise is still there - it sounds like a bad inner cv joint or some type of bearing going bad.

Before I go through the thrash of replacing the differential, I thought I try one more time to see if anyone has experienced this sound and solved it. I may replace the left side axle again - as I have heard of non- OEM axles being bad from the start.

stupid question, but does it make the noise when the car is sitting stll, and turning the steering wheel?

Nope. just driving and turning to the left - as in turning a corner. I even hooked up a wireless microphone to various parts of the suspension and listened with headphones to see if I could isolate the sound...no luck. I'm running out of ideas.

Just for kicks, check your rear transmission mount.

I replaced both side motor mounts, the front mount, and checked the rear mount which looked fine.

Had a very, very similar problem; changed the axles and it fixed nothing. Coincidently enough, the problem only showed itself when making a left turn. The (6-speed) tranny mount appeared fine until it was taken off, turns out it was in two pieces.

Interesting...well I happen to have a new rear tranny mount I can install. I'll throw that in there and see what happens before I go any further.

Good luck with your search for the problem, I hope it's as simple as the rear tranny mount.

I had a weird sound the other day coming from the front end. Thankfully it was only the passenger side axle, which happened to be completely dry from the lack of grease. $200 later I have a new axle and no more weird sounds.

I should have the new mount in this AM. I hope you are correct. The old one was not "in two pieces" but was in pretty poor shape.

I have a similar problem i'll try doing what was stated earlier. one more thing, I also have a sound coming from the passenger side front wheel area it makes a squeaking sound and a metal to metal rubbing sound up to about 20mph. Can anyone give me a general idea on what that might be?

^^ How are the brake pads on the front right looking? Could be the contact pieces letting you know the pad is getting low.

Have you checked the steering knuckle the cv is connected to? Sometimes they get worn out, wheel bearings??? I know you said you did, but recheck it. As a wrench you gotta assume you messed up first..LOL sad but true. Then blame the parts. Howling comes from bad bearings, no doubt.
