After many many months of R&D, I've finally finished my second set of LED/cathode tail lights. This took me a while due to me trying out different methods and playing with the best combinations of panel circuit board LEDs and cathodes while keeping cost down to a minimum. That and doing 3 different styles at once. I managed to finished the second version (version 2) first since version 1's custom ordered lenses still have not arrived yet. :angryfire:. These Version 2s are made with one of my custom red/clear tail lights with the red border from my recent group buy. So anyway, here's some pics to tie y'all over.
Pics of LED panels used. The larger ones are brake lights obviously. The smaller ones are for the reverse lights. Control module was not needed.
After disecting the LED panels, the clear lens and black back piece was not needed and so were trashed.
LED panels and their chrome reflectors were trimmed to fit the Legend housings. The Cold Cathodes were then glued to the panels which were glued to each other.
Mini amber LEDs were used for the turn signals. I left just enough space for an amber incandescent bulb just in case the LEDs weren't bright enough. They worked out great.
Small holes were drilled to hide the wiring.
Chrome plastic was cut and glued on to hide all the extra wiring at the ends of the Cathodes.
Red reflective tape was applied to the center ridge to make it DOT and street legal.
The smaller super white LED panel was glued to the reverse section of the tail lights.
Backside of the tail light housing with all the wiring connected.
The finished product.
