this has me thinking (& as a service to potential new Legend buyers out there)

my 5.5 years of ownership:

car alarm - $250
washer/wax/clay - $50
TB/WP & 90K - $1000
Brakes stuff - $600
Tires - $400
battery/bulb - 70
radiator, hoses & assoc. replacmentment - $250
insurance - $5500
60K service (DIY) - 110
transmission flush - $120
gas (65K miles driven/22 mpg X $1.75 avg) - $5170
oil change -65K/4K miles avg = 16X $10 (avg) = 160+80bucks filter=$240

total = $13760 / 5.5 years = $2501 a year

but....peace of mind & cool factor - PRICELESS!

Purchace price 6 years ago $4500
Master cyl pads and rotors $400
Insurance $3600
Fuel $5000
Oil changes $100
$2300 per year with cost of car, 92 LS cpe. Granted, working for the dealer added signifigant savings

I've had my 92 since 94. If I started adding up every maintenace and repair cost I would probably ask my wife to hit me beside the head to instill some common sense and put the Legend up for sale. It is not an inexpensive vehicle to keep maintained, and as they age, the costs multiply (which is only as it should be). However, for a 13 year old car, it is ticking along like a Swiss watch. And when I think of it in respect to an 1981 Vette I am wrenching this week, I am so glad I also own a Legend!

Very few people realize how much it takes to drive a car like the Legend. My average cost per year to run this car?

Bought at: 68K miles (1999)
Currently at: 201K miles

Insurance: $1000/year
Fuel: (30K/Year @ 21 MPG @ $2.70/gal) = ~$3900
Maintenance: ~$500 (Fluid changes, detailing, tires, pads, ...etc. Not including timing belt/waterpump replacement)
Total Cost/Year: $5400/Year

Major scheduled service:
DIY Timing belt/waterpump replacement ($500/incident x 2 ): $1000 parts only.

Unscheduled service since owning the car:
Head Gasket Replacement (Both sides): $3200 parts & labor @ dealership.
DIY Radiator & hoses replacement: $200 parts only.
AT Rear Mount replacement: $340 part & labor @ dealership.
DIY VSS replacement: $100 part only.

fuel is what really adds most of the cost.

But you use fuel and have to pay insurance with any car so do you really want to count those factors?
Or at least post the cost to drive something else like a civic and then an RL so we can see the difference in price.
If your talking about just keeping the Leg running then I don't think gas and insurance should count. Besides both vary greatly in price depending on where you live.

I can't make an actual list 'cause I've basically upgaded everything. The only true maint. work I've done is

Head Gasket $1700
Radiator $120
Windows $300 (bought it with windows broken)
Keys $150 (bought it with locks tampered with)
Wheels $200 (bought it with 4 doughnuts)
$2470 / 5 years = $494

I don't know how much I spent but I barely drive my Legend. I spent ~$400 total in gas last year which meant I basically got gas every other week. And insurance = $1050/year so ~$1400 year?

even at an average cost of 2500$ a year thats only around 208$ a month. I think 2500$ is a little much to be considerd avarage. It still beats the hell out of a car note of any new car that would be comparable to it.
