I'm looking at getting a car in the near future, and I was wondering what your likes and dislikes about the Legend are. It seems that they have a lot of good features, but also a lot of problems that add up in the money dept.

I'll post the dislikes:
ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! Not a whole lot to dislike when it comes to these cars. If you really into modding I would have to say; not enough aftermarket parts. Oh, no tilt moon roof. LOL I can go on and on about the likes, but I wont. Ok, here is one: When people ask if my car is a 1999 or 2000 model. or Do I want to sell it. |

Talking from my own experience, I think the Legend is a very reliable car.
My dislikes is that when something breaks down, it'll will cost you and arm and a leg.

Here are my DISLIKES and LIKES about the Legend:
DISLIKES: 1. Abrupt shifting on automatics...esp. from 1st to 2nd. 2. Engine vibration that you can feel thru the steering wheel between 1500-2000 RPM. 3. Only 4-way power front passenger seat; driver's side has 8-way. 4. Only ONE cup holder up front and none in the back. 5. No pass-thru trunk thing; I can't stick anything long in there! 6. Expensive maintaining it. 7. Very very few aftermarket support. LOVES: 1. Sleek, elegant, timeless style....yet aggressive looking, esp. for a coupe or GS (still turns heads everywhere I go). 2. Strong and responsive engine (TYPE II). 3. Solid build quality that will last for a long time (Honda reliability). 4. Well-composed road manner at slow and high speeds (coupe/GS). 5. IT'S A LEGEND....BABY! ![]()

Dislikes : parts are expensive but thats true with cars in general, the car is naturally low and you cant get close to parking blocks or they will mess up your bumber when you back up.
Likes: great smooth riding car. Smoke a modified civic or integra lol, V6 3.2L do i need say more?

Likes: Exterior and interior styling are the best, reasonably quiet engine, has a nice stately feel when your cruising down the road.
dislikes: I HATE the transmission/throttle setup WITH PASSION!!!! I cannot stand the fact that it starts in second gear and that you have to hit the kickdown button (which is pretty much only when you floor it) to get it to go into first and accelerate hard. It normally lags quite a bit when you start moving. My biggest annoyance with these cars. I also hate how you have to keep an eye on it. It is prone to so many things failing (headgaskets, tranny mounts, door lock actuators, etc.). Other than that I would say it is one of the top three best cars made after 1970.

Likes: awesome body design (timeless)
power elegant yet sporty style Dislikes: tranny problems (high mileage) lots of little quirks over time Nothing I really hate, just a few things here and there, pretty good when you think about how old it is. I too am asked if its a 99 or 2000! Amazing considering its a 92 with visible rust and leather wear.

When I first got it last year, everyone guessed it was a 2000 or 2001 (I never showed them the mileage). Someone even guessed it was only 3 mo. old. It is actually a '91.
Yeah parts are expensive but there are tons of cool people on the forums like this one that can hook you up with cheap(er) parts and installation-know-how, which is fun. The ride is super smooth 'coz of that long wheelbase I guess. And there is plenty of power under the hood. If you know what to look out for it is easier to prevent it (like the head gasket failure, for example). Go for it. I wouldn't purchase any other car that was 7-12 years old. |

im guessing these tranny problems and unsmooth shifting only pertain to the automatics, cause my 5speed sedan has an absolutely great powertrain. The engine feels like it was made to have a manual attached to it, so much power and torque.
These cars are very very reliable, sure it has a few problems, but ALOT less than 95% of other cars its age. Probably has less problems than a BRAND NEW BMW. as for high maintainance cost, its not going to be as cheap as a civic or accord, but one drive behind the wheel and you'll realize why. Higher quality parts used throughout. MUCH stiffer and balance car. Part of the reason for the lack of a pass thru is for more structural bracing. i believe there is a cross beam that runs behind the backseats, correct me if im wrong. Alot of cars are designed this way, not so many nowadays, though. OK here go my dislikes: no cupholder.

Dislikes ;
Creaks and rattles when traveling over rough roads. (Prob due to modified susp and the fack that the car is almost 10 y/o) Repairs and parts cost as much or more than brand new Acuras. (it you have your own mech. or hook up on parts at a discount your set) Slow lag of acceleration from take off & the "kick" from the tranny into second gear (auto)... (Tranny cooler may solve the "kick" and CAI/Stage II chip can increase accleration) On the coupes you cant pass things though the trunk into the car. Coupes backseat is pretty much useless unless you are a toddler or under 4'11. Doors on the coupe are heavy. Park on a upward incline and have the door come flying back and hit you in the head. It hurts. Getting in and out of the coupe is tedious. If you had to get in and out of the rear seat more than once you would not want to get back in the car. Likes: Timeless design Slight modifications to any year legend can really update it's looks. LS/GS models have some options that are not even avalible in 04 RL's. It's timeless looks......(Had to say that twice)

Yeah there is a metal "x" essetially that goes between the back seats and the trunk liner. This is probably my biggest complaint that I forgot about--no fold down rear seat. The trunk is plenty big though.
And yeah...no cupholder's is no good but it gives me a good excuse not to let anyone eat or drink in my car ever. You can buy cup-holder armrests from various people who get them off junked ones...I guess some model years had a cup holder in the center arm rest...not sure which years though and it costs a fair amount. The premium bose system sounds just about as good as the current factory sounds systems. I love being able to crank it way up and just know that my car came that way from the factory. |

It's just a great car if you're looking for something with style, luxury and performance that won't (initially) cost you an arm & leg. It IS, however, a fairly high-profile luxury sports sedan, so it is not cheap to maintain - nothing in this category is, tho. It's not a civic, but it's just as reliable as one. There just aren't many cars of this ilk that are affordable, reliable, and maintainable.
Mine's a '95 L sedan, and I really like it. Yes, I wish it didn't drink premium gas, and it does shift from 1st-2nd fairly abruptly - though better after change of Honda tranny fluid - and even oil changes cost a bit more than you'd think....but it is a premium car, as reflected, unfortunately, in its insurance costs. No complaints, though, really. I wouldn't hesitate getting another one. Good luck! |
