I'd recommend saving up some more dough and getting a legend in better condition. I'm about to put a legend for sale in the next week or so, its a 94 L with 118k asking 6k its in really good condition. alot better then a cheaper legend, those just tend to have problems..

try craigslist socomtyson, thats where i found mine, here are a few links in the NYC area:

http://newyork.craigslist.org/wch/car/316817273.html

http://newyork.craigslist.org/que/car/316012715.html

http://newyork.craigslist.org/que/car/319089385.html

i don't know what your definition of "decent" is but you might have to spend 3500 - 4500 for something in better shape such as these below:

http://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/car/318427086.html

http://albany.craigslist.org/car/294044115.html

http://albany.craigslist.org/car/309145181.html

http://buffalo.craigslist.org/car/313234860.html

I got lucky when i found mine because the guy was actually 5 min from my house so i got to inspect it thoroughly and I got to bargain with him. I'm no Legend expert but for 5000 - 6500 you'll get a pristine looking Legend inside & out. Hope these help or at least give you an idea of what you're getting for your money.

You may be better off finding a cheap Legend with a blown head gasket, paying somebody to do the head gaskets on it, and having a relatively problem free car for a few years. I did that with a $1000 5 speed Legend coupe I brought up from Florida.

I had $1700 with shipping to Ohio, put $250 in the engine, and sold it for $5800.

ok so i just messaged the owned of the white sedan on craigs list for 2k heres is his response

Hello Mike,

The car is still available. First come, first served. The car has not overheated, but it will need a new radiator (oem thermostat replaced). After driving for one hour, the temperature gauge needle will bounce to high then lower itself. The head gasket was done about a year and a half ago and there is no white residue on the oil cap or coming from the exhaust. The car has been sitting for the past four months, because a friend of mine wanted top purchase the car, but he spent his tax money. Anyway, I now own a 94 GS 6spd and don't need to hold onto the car any longer. I'm not hard up for the money so I'll leave it at that. I live about an hour and a half from

do you think its just a radiator or is it a bhg?...im thinkin of goin down there this week...please help

and its an L that hes advertising as an LS.

I've been looking around for one recently too, and it's still extremely hard trying to find one worth getting with a budget over twice what yours is.

I'd agree to either wait until you can save up 4-5k to ensure that you can get one in good condition, or go Diaz's route and buy one with a bit of engine work and fix it up yourself.

Either way, MAKE SURE YOU BUY A CARFAX SUBSCRIPTION! I paid $25 for 30-day unlimited search, and I've already weeded out at least 5 Legends (most of which were from craigslist) that were problematic regardless of what the owner decided to leave out of their listing. Since you're looking to buy on the lower end of the pricing spectrum, youre either gonna find ones with known fixable problems, or complete POSs from sellers who are gonna "conviently" leave out major issues.

Good Luck!

definitely get a carfax before you invest in any used car, but i still suggest that you save up a little bit, you'll get a better car in the end.

I'm probably going to sell my 92 Legend for around there. It needs a drivers window reg. and has no stereo(including speakers.) No heating problems at all. Has 176K but still looks good, no rust and the interior looks real good.

I bought the car from 97SE on these forums. The car spent it's life in Georgia (no rust) and he moved up to Chicago, and sold it to me a few months after he got there. I drove to Chicago, bought it there, and drove it home. It still hasn't seen a winter.
