Main odometer and Trip meter not working

Hi All,

The only thing not working in the instrument panel is odometer and trip meter.
I had browse through lots of posts but was unable to come to any conclusion.

I am not sure whether main odometer is the separate part which can be changed. Its sitting in the RPM meter. Also the trip meter is sitting in the speedo meter.

The VSS kit has already been replaced long time ago.

Solutions:

1 - Change whole cluster? Junk yard?
2 - Change RPM meter and Speedo meter?
3 - Change main odometer and trip meter separately?
4 - Change electrical cable?
5 - Repair electrical connection?
6 - Repair main odometer, trip meter, some how?
7 - Fuses?
8 - Lubrication?

It didn't happen suddenly, both were working ON and OFF for longest time

Appreciated,
Thanks

Not sure what you are referring to? Hopefully the VSS is working, since there is no indication otherwise. Its only those two counter which are not moving. They been moving on and off for some time, then finally quit.

I'm not home so I can pull up the diagram but I guess try to switch them out for one from a parts yard.

Here is the update!!! Thanks for all the useful postings every body!!!

I disassemble the the cluster and trying to diagnose the cause of the problem. The culprits are

1 - The PC Board (Housing speedometer, stepper-motor-odometer-counter-gear assembly, and gas indicator).
2 - The stepper-motor-odometer-counter-gear assembly.

My conclusion is, the PC board is bad. Does any body else have better idea!?

Here is the final update!!!

I was able to pin point the problem by trouble shooting and simulating the VSS signal. The problem is the worn out stepper motor which is held on with a screw and rivet.

I was able to get one with 136,000 for only $6.00 from pick & pull junk yard. Finally the odometer is turning again!!!

Please note: This solution is applicable only when speedometer is working while the odometer is stuck.
