KNLNGUS... I'm pretty sure you have been around for awhile as your screen name looks/sounds very familiar. However, I don't believe we could have announced this with no room for "interpretation". There will always be someone who will disagree with the price or the way we came to the end result. The fact of the matter is no one will ever be happy and as experience of the past has demonstrated there are alot of people who want parts for their Legends but simply can't afford to be in the game... And I bet I can prove it when the short shift kit is ready for release.

As I look into my crystal ball, this is what I predict will happen.

1) Many will say they want it and at the last minute bail out...
2) There will be posts indicating that it cost too much...
3) Many will complain that this is a community and it should be given for free...

I would love to be proven wrong....

Maybe what I should have said is, $20.00 for a lap dance with a celebrity of your choice and instead give the DIY for the tilt moonroof modification....

MikeC

Dammn it Matt... Can you add more smilies... I could use the "dunno" smilie right about now!!!!

I don't see why "recovering costs" and "financing future R&D" have to be mutually exclusive in your minds.

We are trying to recover costs so that we can finance future R&D!

As for the yearlong evaluation, it was tongue-in-cheek; sarcasm.

The fact is that a handful of us have continuously pumped money into the Legend community asking nothing in return. We figured out this solution after having spent a lot of money going the "proper" route. Upon figuring out that it would cost nothing to anyone to accomplish (vs. thousands in parts), we asked those who were interested to share in the cost of figuring it out. That's it!

"Recovering costs" and "financing future R&D" aren't exclusive to each other! There were enormous costs associated with figuring it out. Recovering some of this cost will allow us to have money to put towards other projects! It's really that simple. I don't think that we spoke in code, did we? Maybe it's the languge? I was certain that the majority here spoke, read and understood English.

Don't you guys see just how much of a fiasco all of this is? It was a simple request to have those INTERSTED in this information to help share in the cost of figuring it out that has turned into this super blown-out-of-proportion b***hfest over a $20 contribution; and even though the money would be used to fuel other projects, what does it matter if it wasn't? Did you feel as a community that we OWED you the money that was spent on this?

As to the earlier mention of recovering the cost of this project through the sales of product from future projects. You have got to be kidding me. It would be a blessing by the Almighty if we even recover the cost of R&D on that future project, let alone this one. Yes, no matter how you look at it, those of us who do this, do it at a loss, not profit. It would be NICE if we could make a profit on anything, but with the state of this "community" we'd be lucky to get enough people to meet the fabricator's minumum number.

Wholey crap, I'm wasting my time again.

My god... What a drama! If I wanted to read this SH*T I would watch more daytime TV!

In any case, this is worth my $20 as long as it works! Where do I pay and how long does the mod take? Im in!

My god think of what these guys have done for us in the past and get your sh*t together. How many times have they answered questions for you or helped out with group buys? How much is their T-I-M-E worth? More than $20? I think so!

Please post a timeframe for this DIY project, or PM me if it is sooo easy that you wouldn't want to post it (preferable!).

@LegendGS:
You would probably have gotten better results just posting the DIY and stating that future DIY's like this one may not be available unless people want to chip in to help with the cost of working them out. As you stated, it's turned into a fiasco and it's because of the way it was presented. Part of my job is securing budgets (and spending them).... You'ld be surpised how many people are willing to give you what you want if you just ask the right way.

Keep in mind that if you're going to ask for money to pay for future mods, nearly every single person who puts in is going to want to have a say in what DIY's are developed. And when someone else is footing part of the bill, you're not just on your time anymore, you're on theirs also.

Also, if the tiltmod is easy and requires no additional hardware, I suggest to any average person with a set of common tools just give it a shot & figure it out. It's no engineering challenge from whats been posted by the guys who've done it already.

I have more to say and suggestions to make but honestly, I'm losing interest in this fast. One thing I will say is this though....people DO spend time & money to come up with mods/DIY's. Those people DO deserve to be shown appreciation for it. Nobody likes feeling like they're being used, taken advantage of, or taken for granted.

exactly. these guys are being tight, if its as simple as they say it is figure it out.

i like the point about dv8's 3.5 swap too. he didnt have to share all the information he did. and he certainly didnt say i'll only post pics and details after someone pays for me having to go purchase the RL heads since his Type 2 heads wouldnt work.

if you wanna charge people for info noones stopping you, but dont cry when someone calls you scrooge. especially when theyre right.

you guys are developing products for future use...do you think based on this whole fiasco that people are going to be receptive to your offerings in the future?

Your right on this... We should have known better from the past experience of the Legend Community. There are some who support those who think outside the box and there are those (which appears to be the majority) who are waiting for hand outs...

So who focking cares if anyone of the majority will be receptive... We just won't make this or any future project available to them...

"THE BOTTOM LINE IS, "NO ONE WOULD HAVE THIS FEATURE (OR EVEN BE THINKING ABOUT IT RIGHT NOW) IF IT WASN'T FOR ME AND GRAEME (THAT'S RIGHT WERE TAKING THE CREDIT FOR THIS) BRINGING THIS TOO THE LEGEND COMMUNITY"

LegendGS... you did not speak in code and no there is no language barrier. Fact is... people spoke before you and despite what you may think... INITIALLY those who did chime in concerning cost did quite CLEARLY type RECOVER cost - now unless you have a misunderstanding of this EXACT and SPECIFIC terminology(?) - we should see where I am coming from. I live my life with the understanding that you don't owe me jack so whether I'm in this community or not... I'm not entitled to jack... All I said (in short) was that the initial post concerning the mod came out FUBAR. You should be able to see where I am coming from.

I have it in my mind that you might owe Bell Atlantic, At&t, Mobil Gas Card - and lets talk about time. Those are real expenses that can be calculated and offset. I make $34.09 per hour and that is usually the time/ dollar expense I equate to mowing lawn, grocery shopping - so I had it in my mind that there was some specific debt you owed to other people or agencies concerning this specific project.

I could care less if those who offered this mod for $20.00, opened the letter, took out Mr. Jackson and lit him on fire with a match - BFD. I didn't think of this mod, I didn't offer any knowledge, time, or cost.

Wholey crap, I'm wasting my time again. I don't think so. Your just giving an opinion.

I not once said $20.00 wasn't worth it. I like the idea of being able to perform a modification on my vehicle and the idea of $20.00 (from what you are saying LegendGS) would help to keep overall expense of operating a loss down a bit.

MikeC, your predication (acurate and detailed) is exactly what has happened to many GBs that I have participated in (to the personal tune of just under $1,200.00). Everyone and their brother chimes in with I'm in and then the time comes around for order fullfillment - the vendor gets screwed.

Something that I would have taken to well would have sounded something like this...

Here is my mod folks. It costs $20.00. Simple point here folks. If you want the mod... you must contribute $20.00. We do not forsee being able to cover our entire R&D expense incured by offering this modification for $20.00 as much of our work is based upon financial loss for the gain of others but for $20.00 you get the modification as well as the knowledge that your contribution will help to ease the cost of our next modification! Having performed R&D on this modification, we are pleased to announce that there are no fitment issues, or negative results reported. We are looking forward to reporting on the progress of our R&D on short shift kits which we hope to have developed in late CY04.

Now... once I receive a minimum of 50, 40, 30 we will send out the instructions PP.

KNLNGUS: Very nicely stated, but I guarantee that no matter how you put it, there will be someone who will have something to say, because they don't like the way you wrote it or its not worth $20.00 (or what ever amount you come to)... that fact is, this is the nature of the majority of the Legend Community, when its time to put up, they are no where to be found... And at this time I'm not speaking for the "moonroof tilt modification" it could be for any of the past ventures where expectations were not met or for any future ventures that are currently in progress.

Again I go back to my crystal ball (which by the way I found on asile 5 at Toys R US) it never lies...

Like I said before, the remedy (for the future ventures) is to "keep the majority out of this"

Please take your time to read the following very carefully....

Some of you should try to come up with a project (and I don't mean putting a mesh wire on the front grille) where substanial effort, time, research, phone calls and money had to be invested. Then go look in the mirror and repeat the same things you said on one of the "Tilt moonroof" threads, either here or at AcuraWorld. Yeah... I thought so...

is simply why ALL the people who have attempted Clears for the rears have NOT gone public with them .. and when they did it cost and arm and a leg.

Tho's of you who have a sedan know what i'm talking about ... R/C/R

Tho's of you with coupes .. keep wanting and waiting .. it's going to take some time..

Come to think of it .. ALL of the projects and part took a LONG time simply because it was individuals doing them on lack of funds and time .. but we need to work together if we want it cheap, because how many things in life are REALLY free?

MikeC .. I'll take 2 thanks .. got 2 cars to do .. hit me up with details on where to send the cash!
