Car 1: 1994 GS Sedan

My 6-Spd... Totalled :(

Well guys, I know I haven't been around for a while... but thought I would share the bad news. Got rear ended by a jeep wrangler while sitting at a traffic light on Sunset Blvd (on April 3rd). Said he changed lanes and didn't see me. The insurance adjuster came by last Friday and said that the car is a write-off. I took it to a few body shops, and what they say is that it can be fixed... but I'm being quoted anywhere from $8-12K. I should be hearing from the insurance company soon as to what they are going to give me for it. The sad thing is, she still drives the same... just as fast, handles good, seems fine from the inside.

Here are some of the questions I had for those who have had this experience before:

1) Will the car ever be the same if I get it fixed? (it will have a salvage title though)
2) Is anyone interested in buying the car... if so, how much can I expect for it?
3) Am I better off just buying it back and parting it out?

Here's a list of all the modifications/accessories that I have on the car.

1994 Acura Legend 6-spd Sedan (Black/Black)
158K Miles
3 Angle valve job on heads along with resurfacing and port and polish (@ 138K miles)
Custom mandrel bent down pipes (replaces the two stock pre-cats)
Bolt on straight pipe
Bayou stage 2 chip
Short Ram K&N filter
Timing Belt, Water pump, Tensioner, and all belts replaced at 100K miles
Eclipse 8443 CD player
10" Subwoofer
Koni/H&R suspension set-up.
Ingalls camber kit
MLS strut tower bar
A set of 4 Brembo/Bradi cross drilled and slotted brake rotors
A set of 4 stainless steel braided brake lines with EBC green stuff pads
Clear corners & bumper lights
Katana Inspire 18x7.5 wheels
Tinted all the way around

I also have all the stock parts that were taken off the car. That includes:

GS rims
Bose head unit
Stock suspension
TCS unit
Complete stock intake & exhaust system
Stock corner and bumper lights

Below is the link to the pictures of the accident. From that page, if you click on "Back to atalwatte's Photos", you can see pictures of the car before it got in an accident and my heads during the re-build.

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/atalwa....tDzCBP_5r6_nj

Thanks for everyone's help over the past four years. I would never have gotten this car to how it was, without help from members on this forum.

Daamn, a totalled GS six speed? Now thats a shame. Sorry to hear the bad news. I'd wait until you get a quote from the insurance before you make a decision but if the repair quotes are that high it doesn't look good on keeping it. Good luck.

Buy it back if they total it out. Find a nice used Black sedan and swap your drivetrain and interior into it.

sorry man, but that's no worth fixing in my book, exspecially at the price. I know it must be rough right now, but you might be able to find one that you can start over on. I would take all the mods off and look for another ride. It might be rough at first but in the end it will be worth it. I just saw a black on black GS on autotrader yesterday. check it out. good luck. Hope for the best.

Buy it back and part it out. I'll buy the woodgrain 6 spd console.

That's what pissed me off the most as well. The only thing he had to do was put his license plate back on and drive away. Felt like take a sledge hammer to his Jeep.

I'm now in the process of taking the car to body shops, to see if it's worth getting fixed. Will keep everyone updated. IF I do decide to part it out, is anyone interested in the engine and the tranny?? Trust me, that's the most valuable part of this car.

Such a shame to see that happen to a beautiful GS 6-spd. Evidently the Jeep pushed you into the car in front as well. Did you hit that canterbury green Legend sedan? At any rate -- I don't know what I'd do in the situation. How much do you think insurance'd give you for the car? I might take your TCS unit off your hands; my TCS light has been on and we haven't been able to figure out why. Drop me a PM if you get a chance. Best of luck with everything! That was (is) a beautiful car. Props for documenting the accident as well; it always pays to carry a camera in the car.

I have been through this a few times. The first thing to keep in mind is that this is not your fault and you should not loose 1 penny on this deal. If you have the reciepts for all your mods start a list and include mileage installed. Count all the maintance too and the mielage. Then start looking around for other 6spd GSs Blk/Blk. This is where you are going to come out on top. If you hold out with the insurance settlement for about 2 weeks they will give you what ever you find another GS for. You will need the KBB, NADA, and edmunds values as well. The more information you have before you talk to them the better. Also when you talk to them make sure you only state what they ask for and nothing else. Also try to be very vague. Do not give out any information on your insurance company, they have no right nor need for that. Now that you have jacked the settlement into the $10-$12k range they might fix the car or at that point take the buy back settlment. With what you have on that car you can easily make $3g on parting it out. Good Luck!
Later!
