She has about $300 saved and her job at the mall, Dippin Dots, isn't exactly, KA CHING, gonna pay for a decent repair. This is exactly why it hasn't had the second timing belt, new struts. Its got a new driver and its longevity could be compromised. As far as I'm concerned, its a very safe car and easy to drive. I'll make sure the hood stays down, the headlights are pointed straight ahead and thats about it for now. I'd love for her to make enough to get her own car but thats just not gonna happen. I can't send her off in these $800 taurus' she's looked at.
Someone mentioned the 6 speed. I had a gold 94GS 6spd in the garage next to that black legend for a couple years. Wife's car. We needed a bigger car so both were for sale at the same time. I always said I would never be disappointed with whichever one I was left with. Well, the 6 speed sold, I missed it but I've had the auto since 30000 miles and knew the original owner so its ownership history had a lot to do with liking it. I know everthing thats ever been touched on that car and nearly every mile it was driven. Well, I used to anyway. I'm starting to feel worse now. I need that damn car back, drop a couple grand in it, change the locks, make daughter park taurus down the street, get rollin.

Get that legend back and buy her (or loan her the $$) and get an early '90's accord- preferably a '92-93. You can get a decent one cheap enough (~$1500), they are about as reliable as they get and will hold up fairly well.

hey if it still drives its still good! rather than buy her another shiny ride to let her friends scratch up, just make sure the headlamps and radiator are ok and saddle her back in it. i mean, it sucks, but maybe driving a car that was nice until it was crashed by her hand would get it into her head how rare clean cars are.

OK, just got back from bro-in-laws. Had the GS hooked up to trees and winches. Ancient body man techniques. I guess I'm happy with the results. Still haven't seen it in the daylight. I'll post pics later thursday. All I can say is 'he has the ultimate set of tools'.

We used a hand winch chained to a tree for a couple areas, then he had some slide hammers. We rebent the hood by opening it up and resting the center on a tall jack then just started slowly bending till its basically flush with the quarter panels. Only cost me a 12 pack so far. I need to seal the headlight and get some spray paint to finish. Its tainted but I'm good with the repair.

looks good, now DON'T LET HER Drive it. get her a beater and park the GS for a while... or sell it to me. JK. Its too bad that teenage ownership has messed up your car, its almost unpreventable. But good luck with it, lets just hope she doesn't put that poor thing in the junk yard.

Wow...that's some impressive work for a winch, a tree and a jack being your tools! looks much better, but I know what you mean by tainted. I too agree with all the suggestions for a 4cyl accord for her. They're cheap to acquire, maintain and run and more in keeping with her driving

Just read this... glad you banged it back into shape - sorta lol. Also good to see that you can still have a sense of humor (pants still on comment made me spit my drink out ).

Where are you in STL?

I do believe my daily driver would be an ideal choice for her! Consider a trade?

I am in Chesterfield but that car goes all over locally. While anythings possible, I really cannot trade the Legend at this time. I already made the mistake of selling the 6 speed GS I had. I knew the day would come when I wished I bubble wrapped that thing and stashed it away. I'm hoping its SCARED STRAIGHT for my daughter. I've driven with her alot and she's good behind the wheel but needed the smackdown. A little confidence and next thing you know she's doing something else and driving at the same time, Mrs. Colemanapp JR style. She doesn't have a cell phone so she can't talk while driving but she was reprogramming a station on the radio, looked up and had to hit the brakes. Any less of a car and it would have been really bad. I'm guessing the antilock brakes were jackhammering when she hit. I'm just too scared to stick her in less metal but anything bigger would tough to maneuver. The Legend has a way of making you a hero driver where some other cars would require a little more driver ability if you know what I mean.
So what are you trying to trade and where are you in St. Lou?
Bob

Oh yeah, I had her detail (in the loosest interpretation of that word) the car after school today then I took off in it. You'd a thought she constructed the Arch the way she was talking about how tired and dirty she was after that. If I couldn't laugh about some of this stuff it would be too painful to handle.
