hi im new to this website but i have a problem. i have a 1991 legend coupe and my centerconsole is heating up like fire after 30min worth of driving. the radio gets extremly hot to the point where the cds are hard to touch. and when i put my cell phone bellow where the ash tray it gets burning hot to where i need tissue to hold it and while driving i could feel heat coming up from the crack where the hand brake is. earlier in the month i filled up my antifreeze resevoir and yesterday it was almost empty. and also when im driving for like 45minutes i could smell fumes to me it smells like gasoline. also i see no visible leaks around the engine compartment or on the ground

please help i love my car to death and i would hate to let her go

and last year i replaced the head gasket, thermostat, temp sensor, radiator, waterpump, and timing belt

there should be some heat but not enough to where you cant touch things sitting on it or watnot. the heat is coming off of your tranny. it's normal for a little warmth but i dont think if it's almost burning

when mechanic changed my rear transmission mount in january he had remove the muffler where cat it is and he said there was nothin wrong with it and that there was no clogging from wat he could see by looking in the catalyic converter

Could it possibly be that the heat shield was removed? I don't know how much of an effect it has, but it's worth a try.

where is the heat shield located???

if im not mistaken it is located between the top of the cat converter and the bottomof the car

yea check the entire exhust system. plus u said cds are hot do uu have an aftermarket head unit because the legend have a 6 cd changer in the trunk id checck that out too for shorts and such but i dont think that would get that hot so its prob the exhust

yea im on my third radio b/c with the other two after about a month of use the lens would go bad and it wouldnt read the cds anymore

its a sony mx9905 its a aftermarket radio i know its not the radio since im using a external amp for the speakers therefore elimnating the internal amp in radio that generates the heat the internal amp was turned off completely

my console gets pretty toasty too, way more than i think is normal, but nowhere near what you are experiencing....

My center console gets pretty warm and whenever I open the window the heat kinda moves out from under the console so it feels like the heater is on. So on a hot day I'll roll down my windows and it feels like the heater is on so theres no relief.
