could be the cat heat coming up, or it could be the heater is on and a duct is loose. Make sure the temperature is set to the cooler side. Also, when a cat heats up, it is usually from unburned gas. You might want to look at it in the dark and see if it is glowing cherry red. If so then you may have a fouled plug or bad cylinder. If it sat in the sun all day in 100 degree weather it would be hot to touch for awhile, but not just from running the car.

I was wondering if someone could tell me of my problem with a 1992 Legend.
The other day I was driving and step on it to pass another car and made a right turn. Thereafter, I parked the car and smelled an odor like gasoline. There is no sign of overheating, the gauges are working fine. I open the trunk of my car and smell gasoline. The center console is warm. I opened the hood to find if there is any leak, which there is none. The reason I checked for leaks because I discovered when i arrived at work that somewhere in the engine smoke was emitting then it stopped and noticed a streak of anti freeze. I let the car cool and checked the reservoir for anti freeze, which it was empty. I also checked the radiator and it has anti freeze. I also checked the hoses and they are fine. Later today coming home from work parked my car no sign of leaks. But I still get the gasoline odor in my car and the trunk as well and the center console warm, I also felt the shifter it was warm. Could some one tell what is the problem?

Why not start a new thread instead of bumping a 2 year old thread that's totally irrelevant to your problem?

Regarding the hot center console... i agree with the others. Check the whole exhaust system to make sure all teh heat shield are still in place. Secondly, check the tranny fluid. Perhaps if its too low the tranny is heating up due to lack of lubrication. If so, you can grind out the gears. I actually added extra heat matting all through the lower center console and shift plate area to reduce the heat.

As for "bravo659" issue... You should start a new thread, although I suggest u search thru because there are old threads that cover this. The gas smell from inside the cabin and the trunk can most likely be due to a leak at the fuel pump, which is located behind the back seat on the floorpan under the cross members that hold the stock amp and other computers.

On my Grand Am, I had a bad coil pack causing unburnt gas to go out the exhaust, which clogged the cat. In other words, you probably have a bad cat, and a spark problem.
