is it hard to hook up the gentex one? I'm new to modding cars, so any info would be great. I don't know how to disassemble the OEM one, and does the gentex one fit directly? In fact I'm not even sure HOW rear view mirrors are attached to the windshield. Another question is does the mirror require a power source for the dimming/compass, and how do you wire it up? Thanks in advance! -Nate

They want $ 400 to get that unit installed in Toronto. Very nice ... very very nice Just wondering, is there a separate electronic box for the compas, or is it part of the mirror ? Is it accurate ? Can it be adjusted ? Nice job ! |

To disassemble the OEM one you just unscrew this one screw and it pops out of the brakcet. The Gentex GM mirror does not fit directly, so some modification is required. I can probably post some pictures later of how I did it. GM mirror has a tiny screw that attaches to the bracket. I had to make the hole for the screw bigger on the mirror attachment and fit the OEM attachment screw through there. After that I used the same technique to attache the mirror as in the OEM mirror. Mirror does need a powersource. Actually there are 3 wires coming from it. 1 - 12v when ignition is on. 2. - Ground. 3. - 12v when the car is in reverse to turn off autodimming. I decided not to wire the 3rd wire so I connected it to the ground one. I'll try to get the picturees of my attachment modifications up in a few days. They will explain how the attachment worked. |

Compass electronics is sometimes built into the mirror and in my case is juston the arm of the mirror (next to the windshield). The compass is super acurate. It is self callibrating and you can set the zone depending on the part of the country you are in. |

Nice job! I like this mod.
I'm wondering if there is any way to do the electronics via IR to get rid of the wire?
