I am a brand new legend owner so forgive me if this sounds stupid but what is the HG problem you were referring to?

also my 92 LS sedan has 135000 miles on it so what type of oil/filter/interval should I go with...i was going to use mobil one with a fram filter every 3000 miles

would this be ok?

thanks

HG = Head gasket. 2nd gen Legends are prone to HG leaks.

Mobil 1 is extra added-protection (dino oil w/ high levels of molybdenum is fine), just use a Honda oil filter instead.

Side note: Reason why ppl say synthetic is not wise for high mileage engines is that the detergents in synthetic oil may break-down the contaiments around the seal resulting in leaks. If your engine was not properly maintained, switching over to synthetic is not recommended past 75K miles.

Using a larger surface oil filter would also be recommended (NSX filters).
Can you use an NSX filter in a G2? Which one?

Thanks.

The NSX filter was originally a Legend filter.

The Legend switched to a smaller filter in 1995.

NSX filter: 15400-PL2-004

IMO mostly due to Marketing since they charged Legend owners the same $$$ for a smaller filter and NSX owners more for a larger filter.

The filter is technically shorter in height then the nsx filter. This reduces the surface area of the filter element. Refer to this thread for more detailed benefits:

One new interesting oil that you Mobil 1 users could be checking out is the German Castrol Syntec 0w-30. At operating temps it is thicker than M1 5w-30. If you have burnoff from 5w-30 this might be your ticket. It must be Made In Germany. The other Syntec 0w-30 is for winter driving only - don't use it.

Phenomenal all year oil.

Not to insult anyones opinion, but you do not need high dollar oil to maximize you Legends engine life. Oil changes at less than 5,000 miles is a waste of money under normal driving conditions. I have used a 10w-40 and an oil additive since crossing over the 200,000 mile mark. Change your oil and filter every 5,000 to 6,000 miles and you should expect to reach 300,000 miles and beyond.

I see this is a very old post. However the Silicon level is way out of line. Silicon should be single digit. In other words no higher than 10ppm. A number of 30 has the indication of a huge leak after the filter or one of those miserable K&N things. They should not be able to call those filters. Screen is a more appropriate term.

The rest of those numbers look great. A single oil analysis is only a baseline. Repeat samples show trends. Thats where the real value rests.

Cool

In order to make any sense of these results you need a positive and negative control sample.

There are VOA analysis for the Amsoil on Bobistheoilguy.com No VOA will have a flagged Silicon level.

The 95 L Coupe I just bought has supposedly been running on synthetic for most/all of its life. The previous owner (second owner, only had it for 2-3 years) was using Mobil 1 synthetic. My mileage is at 197k. I live in Athens/Atlanta, so I don't drive much during the fall and spring, but I drive a good bit during the summer, and significant (though not majority) city driving during those periods. Should I stick to the Mobil 1 and change every 5-6k miles or so, or should I switch to 'natural' oil?
