Question Name this part...

I need desperate help here.. last night I dropped my gf off at her house and today she called me telling me she found a piece of rubber that looks like a CV boot on her driveway. I went and saw it personaly later on and it does not look like a CV boot as it is smaller and the rubber is very thick.

Lately I have been having crazy vibrations coming from my engine ever since I put my test-pipe back in (replaced the cat). I may have overtightened the spring loaded bolts on the flexpipe pulling the downpipe further back perhaps causing it to rub on something during hard LEFT turning.

I'm going to inspect this and loosen the bolts to see if it helps.... HOWEVER.. this part MAY have come off of my car due to this problem and need help identifying it. Here are pics:

Please note the part at the base is about 2" in diameter and the bottom surface is clean with a "CO" or something engraved on it.

I'm going to lift my car up and inspect it now.. at the mean time I hope I get some help with this.

Geez that kinda looks like a toilet plunger, ya know from the lack of grease and all. Seriously that doesn't look like our CV boot up front, perhaps from the back? or an inboard piece closest to the differential? Have you look under the car while spining the tires? I'm sure someone else can clue us in.
BTW, how you managed to pass emissions?

Name that part...

It looks like part of an engine mount. You said you have crazy vibration now? That could be it then.

Just got back from working on the car. Everything seemed fine underneath the car with respect to the axle assembly and the steering components.

My guess was right.. I over-tightened the spring bolts on the "flexpipe" part of the test-pipe (same as cat). This was creating tension on the downpipes combined with my broken mounts was a recipe for it to rub violently on something when taking a left turn.

All is well now, no more vibrations at all!

I did get the chance to have a close inspection of my mounts, and they're not in good shape at all

From underneath teh car, I was moving the exhaust pipe left and right (checking the tension) wehre the cat is and I'm able to move the engine left and right 1-2".

I also manually turned my front wheels inspecting my CV boots and listening to the axles and everything was good!

Thanks for the help guys... at least this was just a false alarm.

BTW.. I checked my ball joints and their boots seem to be intact.

It's either a chunk out of my engine mount or I guess that part belongs to my gf's car or her parents' car. Gotta have them check them out.

I'm telling you it's your engine mount. If you let it go the others will get tore up as one fails the others aren't too far behind. I doubt your vibration problems will go away till you get it fixed.

I had ALL my mounts replaced and it cost me $500 about 2 years back!

The recent vibration problems I had were horrible... almost like having a constant wheel rub... but this was due to an exhaust tension problem.

Everythign is fine for now... whatever vibrations i get from bad mounts are hardly noticable right now.. and I do plan getting them fixed... I'm just in the process of doing some research on developing polyutherane mounts for cheaper than Acura sells their ****ty quality ones for. If I can do this, I will make it availble to everyone as well. It just takes time.
