Personally I wouldn't touch it, especially for anything near to 5 grand. Does he know you know its got a salvage title? Only way I'd buy that was if it were cheap and I wanted a project car.

it may not be as bad as you think, maybe the first guy that owned it crashed it, but it wasn't a severe total (like the whole front end got ripped off) and he just totaled it to get the money for a new car.

but then again, it is from texas, and i was told that you wanna be careful with cars from texas b/c they have ways to get around titles or something like that.

at least get the car a 120 point (or something like that) inspection. and maybe try to get a hold of the first owner to find out about the car.

i wouldn't jump on the deal yet. plus, 5k for a totaled car? i'd bring that up.

in need of some serious advice IMMEDIATELY

ive been a member on here for a while, and i have to admit ive learned a lot by just sitting back and watching. but now i need some advice from you guys. i came up on a deal for a 92 legend coupe for $5000 about three months ago. i didnt have the funds together, so dude told me he'd give me 1.5 months to come up with the money and even lowered the price to $4750. i ran a carfax; and it said that it was junked, then salvaged; but after that it passes emissions. now i test drove the car and it seemed like everything was in working order. now that i have the funds ready, i dont want to waste it on something that i cant even register (im in maryland). here's a copy of the carfax....

If it were me, I'd pass. For that kind of money here in the Metro area, you'll be able to find another Legend with similar specs, if you can wait.

BUT

If the title was rebuilt properly, it may still be a good car. I'd be curious to know what the heck happened to the car to have a junk title issued. I'd want to have the car checked out by Rosenthal or Radley Acura (should cost you <$100) and see what they think of it. And I'd be curious to know what the owner knows of it.

I know people who own cars whose titles were at one time junked--The biggest issue (assuming you can title it) is selling it later if the buyer runs a carfax.

See your other post--Any local Acura dealer will do an 80-120 point "pre-sales" inspection...Rosenthal does one for $85, I think...

...

that carfax report indicated fire as the reason for total loss....i dunno about you, but thats a red flag to me. I'm not wholly against buying a ride w. a salvage title, but A- the price is too high for a salvage w/ those miles and B - for that price you can find a coupe that hasnt been ummm on fire.....

thanks for all the advice guys. yeah, i would be pretty pissed if i were him too. believe me i was pissed when i saw that carfax! im gonna try to make him understand the severity of what i found, and have rosenthal check it out. if everything checks out at rosenthal, then should i take him up on his offer? i just dont want to throw away all my hard earned money on something that i cant even title. he told me that its his girls car; she just moved up here from tx. ima email him the carfax and spell out for him all that needs to take place for me to still consider buying the car.

to me that would be all you need to tell him, he is tryin to sell you crap... Just pass and tell him that you ran a carfax on it, and that he could have told you, that is a major deal..
