New Legend Owner!

Should I buy a '91 Acura Legend L with 285K on it? It runs great and very quiet, but front seat leather looks very old. It's on sell (private party) for $1500.

Please give your comment fast!

Also like to add that 2 rear power windows fail to go up/down. Tinned windows pop up with air bubbles here and there.

Even though it's a Honda I think 285k is nearing the end of its life. HOWEVER, $1500 for a G2 doesn't sound too bad...unless it is in as bad of shape as this one:

What parts can break for high mileage Legend? I also own a Lexus SC300 and i don't think anything could break easily, so I kinda expected to see the same for Legend.

These are the problem with that Legend:

- Air bubbles on tinned windows (can tinned windows be removed?)
- Leather is old
- Rear automatic windows not working
- Some damage to the paint
- 280K miles
- No service record

This owner has owned this car since he bought it at 26K miles. It runs very quiet, and the tranmission is very smooth.

Would you even consider owning such a car?

I paid $1800.00 for mine with 273,000 on her, but since I've put about $3,000.00 in it, mostly new suspension parts, but it doesn't use a drop of oil between 3,000 mile changes. The engines great but as I said the suspension and shit was shot......Not any more though!

you guys, i bought the car ... for $1350. Let's see what happens. I check the carfax, and the record is fine, and smoke check was just done by the previous owner a few months ago.

In the worse case, i may just donate to get a few hundred back in tax

I guess you just had to have it, huh? Well, congratulations, and good luck.
Mine had 165000 miles on it when I bought it about 2K miles ago, smooth...

But I am aware I am going to have to spend some time and money making sure the engine remains mechanically sound.

thats some high mileage for sure but if u take care of changing the oil on time, put new transmission fluid, radiator fluid, put in the right gas, clean the engine, new air filter(or intake) and drive it smoothly it will last forever. these cars are very durable in my opinion. most other cars wouldnt even drive that long without having some major problems. i bought my legend for $2600 with 164000 miles on it a year and a half ago and it ran perfect. now it has 194000 miles and it runs even better! as soon as i bought it i got new tires, changed the oil/tranny fluid, cleaned the engine etc etc. later on i added the intake and exhaust. so u may have to put a little money into it like another member said but i wouldnt worry too much. just take care of it and it will last a long time. good luck man

Mixed feeling. Not happy at all. But i need a 4-door for the next 3 years, and Legend looks best (so hope it lasts for a while). Legend looks so great that i'll probably keep my eyes open.

So, i will need to do some service/maintenaince for sure, as you recommended. Could you recommend "affordable" places for services that the stuffs (the kinds of oil, coolant, fluid, etc) they put in will be as good or comparable as those at Acura dealership? I am planning for the first oil change at Acura dealership so that they check over the car for me.

Expense so far: $125 for interior detail and engine cleaning (to make sure all the smells and stains are gone). Bubbled tinned windows need to be cleaned. Not sure if I can remove that tinning layer myself.

Here is where things getting interesting. If you don't know a good mechanic that knows Acuras or can't find one, go to the dealer. They may be expensive but it's a lot cheaper than paying a mechanic that doesn't know.

One mistake by someone that doesn't know these cars could cost you a lot.

I know from experience.
