New Potential Owner...need advice!
Broke college student. Currently intersted in buying a 1994 Acura Legend. Not sure what trim it is yet but i do know its black, 117k miles, and is an automatic sedan. The price is $2000. I think thats really cheap so I am worried something is wrong. Seeing it friday. Any advice? what should i look for? hope its not a BHG! Post pics when i see it. THANKS!

Also make sure to hop on the highway real quick and get it up to at least 60...if it shakes, turn around and return the keys to the owner...
honestly though, if you are a "broke college student" this car isn't for you...At 117k, maintenance is an expensive bitch....if it hasn't already, it will need a timing belt and water pump which is an $800 repair easily...also the radiator should have been also replaced at 100k... If I was you I'd buy a civic or accord, those are broke college student rides

as far as what to look for...the temperature should never rise above one tick mark below the half-way point on the temp gauge. Drive it for 20 minutes plus, then park it and let it idle for a while, make dure the temp does not rise. .

C2M95 is right...the Legend is not your ride if finance is a concern. Especially when gas hits $5 a gallon and you're getting mileage in the 20's! Most people here, including myself, have the Legend in addition to a more efficient DD. That said, if you're not going to be doing a lot of driving, someone can help you with $$'s for parts and you're mechanically inclined to do most of the work on the car yourself then the Legend might be for you.

HOLD UP im a broke college student too and i just hit a BHG you can afford these things just be prepaired to do allot of things your self. At 117k the legend is still a baby! and with my 135k carfax says its a low millage car.
-Deffinatly watch the temp gauge while driving it if its anything above the mark just below haft RETURN THE KEYS -Look for a new radiator if so RETURN THE KEYS (its a prelude to a BHG, if not already done) -if there is a shimmy in the steering wheel from 50-70mph its probably an unbalenced tire, if the shimmy is still there past 70mph return the keys - run it through the 4spd auto if there is no hard shift into 2nd be worried if you want i would suggest having a mech look at it

![]() I say ask the seller to get a hydrocarbon test and compression test done and see what the reaction is. Ask for all of the repair history receipts to review....see what he says or does... I think this Legend may have to be passed up man ![]() |

Texas cars are usually cheaper anyways but definitely make sure 500% about all the problems listed above because in the long run, that can empty out your wallet.

The only reason I wouldn't be worried about the price is because the seller might not know what they have. I would definitely take it to a mechanic while you are out on your test drive to have it check out. And test drive it like you don't own it!
