Ok..I just got an 93 Legend LS...the air filter was dirty..so I assume it needs a nice tune-up..so I went ahead and bought the air filter, fuel filter, PCV valve, and this is where it hurts..i asked for sparks plugs and the "NGK's" cost $10 bucks a piece vs the $2 BOSCH's...both are pretty good brands.and oth are platinum plugs..but is it really necessary to replace them with the NGK's that our owners manuals suggest with..?? anyone outhere with sprk plugs that are'nt the OEM type...suggestions would be greatly appreciated...thanks..
ALSO DOES ANYBODYS TRANNY MAKE A WHINING SOUND WHEN U ACCELERATE BETWEEN 10MPH AND 40MPH..IM THINKN OF DOING A TRANNY FLUID CHANGE AND THEN SEE IF IT CHANGES..ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO DO THIS...?? |

2nd. i hav the bosch ones(not the 4+) they seem to be fine. the autolite, which are like .97cents each, i have used for awhile till i had missfire. i thought it was my gapping mistake. on the 4th plug i gave up and bought then bosch. well long story short. it wasnt the plugs, it was the coil pack. anyways, i dont feel a diff in either plugs.

it's not that much of a difference in performance if any at all.. I have Bosch Platinum +4...reason? Long story short, i found two brand new ones, bought 4 more and replaced my plugs. NGK plugs were in the car before, no real difference in performance. about hte whine. i know what you are talking about, but i think that's normal. Most transmissions (specially automatic) give off a whine when they are accelerating

From my experience with honda/acura they don't like anything but NGK.
I would go with the factory OE NGK plugs, you my pay $10-15 a piece but they will last at least 60k. The cheaper plugs will need to be replaced much sooner then that.

My auto tranny (low miles, always well maintained) makes a beautiful turbo like sound when picking up speed in first and second gears. I did a fluid change recently, and nothing changed.
Enjoy the music!

After searching unsuccessfully for the proper NGK plug at my local auto parts stores (at least the ones on my end of town), I ended up buying Autolites at Wally-Mart. After about 1000 miles, I don't notice a bit of difference, except that I'm about $50 richer.

Finally....
Well today I finally replaced the the plugs along w/ the PCV valve and air/fuel filter..I can tell the difference already specially because I found 3 plugs not even hand tighten and the air filter was filthy..the PCV valve was also stuck..since I put the car on a lift..I check the undercarriage and
found my pass. side drive axle boot busted and all the grease gone..Im gonna see if the joint is bad if not I'll just replace the boot..but thanks again for the inputs..I dont know about the whining noise..the tranny fluid looks nice and red and its shifts nice and smooth... but I have chrome 17" rims on 215/45 and I have a lot of road noise...is this normal for all you fellas that have a tire/rim package..??? |

spark plugs
i did some research since i am looking for a plug too. this post is long but if you read the bold print and the sentence before it, you should get the jist of the post. here's what I found out:
as far as i know spark plugs do two things. provide spark for ignition and remove heat from the combustion chamber. theoretically, as long as the spark plug you choose has the same hot rating as the oem's (NGK rates them 6) then you should be fine. of the three (copper, platinum and iridium), platinum has the worst conductivity relative to the other two but lasts the longest from what i have read. the tradeoff in loss of conductivity vs. service life must not be so large since they are used in oem applications over copper and iridium. A common misconception is that spark plugs increase hp. THEY DO NOT !!!!!!! What happens is that a failing spark plug may spark early or fail to spark causing misfires. this causes a loss in hp, fuel economy etc. the benefit, now, of iridium plugs is that they are MUCH stronger than platinum (~6-8 times) and have a higher melting point so they can withstand high heat better than platinum (i think it is +600° C). In addition to this. iridium spark plugs are advertised as requiring less voltage to produce spark since they are extremely thin electrodes (NGK ~0.7mm and DENSO ~0.4mm and 0.6mm). This then translates into more consistent spark generation and less strain on the electrical system that provides iginition to the car. Simply, fuel in the combustion chamber burns more completely and on a more consistent basis. Thats why some companies claim gains with their plugs, THE INCREASE IS DUE TO LESS MISFIRES, MEANING RECOVERING LOST POWER!!! So when someone says iridium plugs are worthless or just a marketing scheme they are most likely misinformed. If you dont see a gain in horsepower when changing to iridium then that is actually a good thing. it means your fuel is probably burning completely and consistently. one thing that does change across the board is less stress on electrics necessary to provide spark since less is required to produce it. Another thing, when someone says bosch sucked for them and someone else says it is good then most likely the plugs are adequate, that is assuming the good user is not lying and CAN recognizing the signs of a misfiring engine. For people who have had failing experiences with bosch they either got a defective plug from the start, didnt install properly, or used the wrong heat range (which by the way not many people mention when they say what plug they got). there are many other factors but those are the ones i know off hand. So in all of this which would i recommend? whatever suits ur budget and meets acura's oem heat range requirement, standard is #6 using NGK's rating. Personally, Im gonna get the NGK iridium plugs part# IFR6E11 stock#6741. Sorry for the long post but i couldnt let all my research be for naught. ![]()

NGK or Denso best for japanese cars
autolite , bosch american cars Increse Hp by spark plug lol , more chances mess up your engine and you don't even know. iridium plugs don't last long,2 months or so ). it became suk after that ,most of people don't even realized it. NGK R 5 stars is one of the best i think.. Last edited by kkiepvvessau : 10-23-04 at 01:29 PM. |
