Odd thing happend today going to store, RPM dance

I let her warm up and everything was fine, but i put her in d4 to leave and my revs kept going from the normal 600, to 400 then to 0 and bouncing between them. 400-0-400-0-400-0-400-0! Put her in N Then i would tap the gas and theyde go back up to 600 for a minute then start the 400-0 thing again. With every 0rpms i would think it would have died until it went back up to 400 again. Then 1/2way to the store, with the legend in d4, it went to 400-300-200-100-0 and the car was shaking then it died!!!! OMG! So i started it back up and everything was fine, and has been since then. WTF was that tho! It freaked me out! Sparkplugs? Clogged fuel lines?, Timing? I just put new oil 10w30 synthetic in 100miles ago!

Might be the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV). It has a rubber diaphragm in it that hardens with age and doesn't open & close like it should. The IACV can be taken apart and the rubber cleaned & reconditioned.

EDIT: Went back and reread your post and I think you may have had some trash in the fuel system that eventually got caught in the filter. People don't realize how much crap is down in the bottom of buried gas tanks.

was it cold? someone told me very small vaccume leaks are evident when its cold. and you are running thin, oil. if it wasnt cold then I would say, somthing in the fuel delivery department, maybe change that fuel filter.

Whenever I was having RPM swings like that it all ended up being due to air in the cooling system. The computer picks up on the air in the system and causes problems with the thermostat, idle control etc. Once I had my BHG fixed, and then had to find a small loose hose clamp and properly bled my system again, runs like a top...no fluctuation in the RPM's etc., at idle.

OKAY LISTEN UP DWEEBS! I have zero cooling system problems, new hoses, all 22, new T-stat, new HG's, new radiator and cap.

Last week or a couple weeks ago, mine started doin the same thin as double G's

It was EXACTLY what I thought. AIR FROM THE HEAT SYSTEM!

Figure it out, summer's over, we are using our heaters for the first time, and all summer, the heater core has been closed off from the rest of the system. Trapped air has been sitting in there all summer, and when you open the heater valve, guess what, TIME TO BLEED AGAIN!

I used the DIY in Mike Diaz's sig, and it runs perfect again........

Bleeding air don't cost nothing, but go ahead and throw parts at it, why not!

Had erratic idle after warm up from 1k to 2k rpm in P/N. Bleed 5+ times in a week seems to be fine now.
