OEM or Aftermarket 90K Service Parts?

All right, here's my situation. I'm at 91,400 miles so Im already overdue for the 90K service. A friend of mine is a mechanic and he quoted me a price of $500(labor + parts) to change my timing belt and water pump. He said he'd be getting the parts from Carquest. Compared to other prices I've seen I know that $500 is a very good price since it includes everything and I won't get the job done for much cheaper. However, I've read that its important to go with OEM parts when doing the 90K service. If decide to go with OEM parts my mechanic will do the labor for $350 and it seems that an OEM timing belt and water pump will run me around another $325-350.
So my question is, I can spend $500 and get the job done WITHOUT OEM parts or spend about $700 to get it done WITH the OEM parts. Will it be worth spending the extra $200?? Are the OEM parts that critical in this circumstance? Thanks for reading! Please let me know!

there is not much offered in the aftermarket for the service. It is usually recomended to use all OEM parts.

save some $

Save some money and get your OEM parts at Acura of Augusta. I just got my 90 K service and I got my wp, tb, and all belts for $245.

Why even try aftermarket? Why run the risk, and get a shotty warranty-when OEM Acura is guarenteed for 10 years against any manufacturing defect, and they're proven to work. Might costmore, but this car is a LUXURY car =\

In your worst-case scenario, you're talking about spending an additional $200 for peace-of-mind; Go OEM, and call Acura of Augusta, should be less than what you were quoted for OEM.

Trust us on the OEM parts--There have been many a heart-break story about trying to save a buck on after-market parts instead of using OEM.

I agree what the other poster said, go with Acura of Augusta to get your parts and make sure to mention that you are from the forum to get your discount. I have saved hundreds buying my parts from them over time.

the timing belt (OEM) is made of a different material than the aftermarket that I have seen and well worth the slightly higher cost ($80 vs. $40 or so). Same for water pump, go for the OEM.....

Thanks alot for the replies! However, the prices that I mentioned for the OEM parts were prices I got from Acura of Augusta. They said they didn't have anymore Timing Belt kits so that I'd have to get the parts separately. I didn't mention I was from the forum though, all I need to say is that I'm from the Acura Legend online forum?? Thats it? Because I heard they were the cheapest place to get parts from but he said about $75 for the water pump and about $250 for the timing belt I believe. So should I ask for them to special order a timing belt kit for me or what? Thanks again!
