I've had a set of OEM 94/95 foglights for my sedan for a couple of years now. Last year with the help of theGodfather and shahavchik's instructions, I rewired them to turn on independantly from the headlights. Some of you may have done this too so you could run your foglights at any time without having to have your headlights turned on. (See below)
Running your OEM foglights during the day (without needing to turn on your lights) Well yesterday, both of the foglights just mysteriously quit working after working witout any problems for more than a year. I left them on all the time and used them as my daytime running lights so I thought that maybe both the bulbs burned out at the same time which was surprising but I did have them turned on CONSTANTLY every time I stared the car up. In fact, I liked this mod so much that I rarely ever turned off the foglights. I've checked both the bulbs and they are good. I also checked all the fuses which are also good. So, I'm not sure what is going on. BTW, I'm using OEM bulbs so I don't think I would have fried the wires either........ I'm at a lost. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can troubleshoot this? Godfather and shahavchik - if you're out there, can you comment please..... Thanks, Pasha. |

you should trace down the wires from the fog lights.
Maybe the wires were disconnected somewhere, cut maybe... also look over the wiring you guys changed around when you re-did your switch...

Check your foglight relay.

Check the relay... I don't know if the fogs are made to stay on all the time (they should be able to) but sounds like the relay went dead. --=Keith

Yep, dig up your wireing diagram remove the relay, test the contacts to see if the relay clicks, and with a voltmeter see how much the switch is letting through, for example, when you have the relay click on, and you test the voltometer you should get a constant 12v from the batt. Sorry i'm not the best at explaining things... Heck just go out buy another relay from the auto parts store and see if it works, you can return it if it isn't the problem... You might find the same relay in your fuse box in the engine bay just to test. --=Keith

Pasha,
Let me ask you something, although the fog lights are not working, when you press and depress the switch, do you hear a relay clicking? Do you also notice the relay clicking when the ignition if off? If so, I know the solution as it hapenned to me! I actually need to revisit my instructions and make a slight modification as I noticed there is a slight mistake I made that causes this, HOWEVER I did realise where I goofed and everything is fixed and running well in my car. I will re-visit the diagram and my instructions and send you the appropriate instructions on how to resolve this, at the mean time please check for the relay clicks.

YES Godfather YES!!!!!
Godfather,
Funny thing is that I DID still keep hearing the clicking when I pressed and depressed the switch. I was wondering why the relay could be bad but now that you mention this, the relay might actually be okay. So, what is this slight mistake you mention? Is it tough to fix? And I'm wondering how they worked just fine for over a year with no problems.....you've got my curiosity going. Anyway, I'm glad you've found the solution though and I'm anxious to fix the problem. Please help. Thanks to you, this is one of my favorite mods. Thanks again! Pasha. |

I don't know if this helps, but I once had an issue with my fog lights because of the melted harness on my alarm system. Here is why:
My Fog Lights were triggered by corner lights coming on so they drew power fromt he same source as the corners. The corners were hooked up to the alarm system - to stay on for a minute when the alarm is disengaged. The fogs would stay on with them too. After about 6 months, my fogs stopped working. The problem was that the harness from corners to Alarm unit melted. To solve the problem I hooked up another relay to power fog lights from a stronger source of power. Good luck! -Alik |

Thanks for the response shahavchik. I'm hoping/waiting to hear from theGodfater because he said he had the same problem. I thought that it was the relay too but theGodfather said that the problem is something else because my relay still clicks when I press my switch on/off. He said he had goofed somewhere with the wiring but has figured it out and will let me know once he gets a chance to revisit his wiring diagram.
theGodfather, please help...!!! Thanks, Pasha..... |
