Unhappy oil on spark plugs

My 91 legend now has overheating issues..and now it wouldnt start.Changed the spark plugs and noticed that the spark plugs on both sides of the engine when taken off were covered in oil. I replaced with new spark plugs and car started..Why is oil on the spark plugs and how could it be stopped.????????????

You will need to buy the the gaskets that pertain to the spark plug tubes. You will have to take off the valve covers to swap the gaskets. They sell these seperate, but I would suggest that you get a valve cover gasket kit, it should run about $20 - $30 in an autoparts store. This kit includes the plug gaskets, the valve cover gaskets, and maybe the cam shaft end gaskets. I say to get the kit because it's not expensive and since you have to go through all that work, why not change all those gaskets and not have to worry about them in the near future. Replacing these gasket can be a PITA and you will need some time to dedicate to this project. I suggest that you take care of the overheating problem that you are having before spending time and money in vain.

Edit: I went on a rant and did not say this. If you had oil on some of the threads or the upper (outside of the engine) parts of the spark plug, then it's most likely what I stated above. If it's on the tip, then it's probably burning oil, this could be due to valve seal or a BHG.

Give us a little more detail as to how your car is running. When does it overheat, other problems, previous problems. Anything you think we would find helpful.

I pretty much think it's just your VC and Plug grommets, but since you said the magic word "overheat" we need to look into it a little more than that.

temperature gauge remains at normal, while driving on the highway..but at stop and go traffic it rises..no other problems than the overheating and oil on spark plugs..Checked earlier..the timing belt and water pump were changed three years ago..the car is at 183,234 miles.no problems occured before.until the temperature gauge started to rise erratically.

it could also be worn piston rings with oil blowby. my friends legend had the same problem and he bought the spark plug tube seals and i installed them and same problem because of worn piston rings. do u burn lots of oil?

Cool 91 legend ls solution

decided to just get a new engine installed. the out of pocket expenses from time to time..soon adds up. Acura mech. said he would re-do the head gasket.but the overheating problem and oil on spark plugs would still exist? this would have cost around $1150. so i did some research and found an engine with 30K miles..should be here this weekend...then will install it...in a month i should have it back on the road.

Any thoughts on this as far as replacing the entire engine. The engine i found is a JDM..any thoughts?? is this the best way to go????
