You will get moisture and fuel down into your oil, and combined with the pressure "blowby", your oil will get all foamy and it will eventually turn into sludge... It will smoke like hell, you most likely will have rough idling, poor acceleration, and bad gas mileage. I doubt you have bad rings, unless you were running a really crappy filter, or none at all. Or if you got dirt into the cylinders when changing spark plugs or something. The only other thing that would really cause you rings to go bad would be pretty serious detonation. Again, you would know if you had that. How many miles do you have? I mean look at long most legends go on original internals with no problems. We have a good r/s ratio and very stout rings from what I've heard/ read.

running a k&n CAI. 160k miles on the car. if dirt went in when i was doing the plugs it had to be minimal, like in amounts everyone else would if they swapped the plugs

The oil probably got on the spark plug threads when the plug was removed. There is a seal/gasket in the valve cover that keeps oil from leaking into the spark plug area(outside of the cylinder). It is common for this seal to leak over time letting some oil into the spark plug tube. To verify remove the coil pack and look into the spark plug tube wilth a flashlight. If you see oil it's leaking. You can also remove the spark plug, if there is oil on the socket or plug it's leaking. For a shop to replace the valve cover gaskets and oil seals it should only take 1 hr and around $100.

Good advice there ....
For future reference people searching this thread....That and then the valve seals would be the next most common problem to the above mentioned symptoms. i just wanted to add to what I said earlier, If you think you have piston rings leaking one easy way to verify is to screw a fitting into your spark plug hole get on your compression stroke and fill with compressed air. if you have leaking rings, the air will come out your dipstick tube.. otherwise you will hear it coming from your valves (or wherever the source of your leak)

the part itself is relatively cheap i got quoted for 5 buckes a seal. for parts under 50 bucks i would rather just go to the dealer so you might only save 15-20 bucks max.
