Im in the same boat my 93 is doing the exact same thing and Im starting to think its a head gasket.....

I have bled the hell out the system the rad is new the t-stat is new NO oil in coolant, no coolant in oil

My car does have white smoke the odd time

so id guess it could be your head gasket

i would say air getting into the system, coolant heats up causing it to expand into the over flow tank, then when the car cools down its suppose to suck the water back into the radiator

My bet is the BHG. Although I think it is more in the seeping head gasket stage right now. Mine started out the same way. When I first got it the car was only using up maybe a half a pint of coolant a day. 8000 miles later it was using the better part of a gallon a day. I never saw oil in the coolant, never saw coolant in the oil, and the heater worked fine. The only clue was the coolant loss and overflow. Look at it this way. If you have pressure tested the system and it still pushes coolant out even after bleeding the hell out of it then overpressure has to be coming from somewhere right? If the system is tight the only place left is through the headgasket. Have you done a hydrocarbon test on the radiator yet? That should be your next step IMO

Regards

You guys could spend $40 on a hydrocarbon test or you could just take my word that it's a seeping head gasket. Overflow not being sucked back up and no leaks is a classic sign of a seeping head gasket.

seeping/blown head gasket. damn...makes me sad. all i can say is stop driving now while its not too bad, get it fixed when u get the money, and only use OEM gaskets!!! mine was doing the same thing even after the new radiator was in and all of that... blah, blah, blah. good luck.

I was having the same issues. Changed the head gaskets and problem solved! Replace the HG.

How many miles? If it's over 150k, I'm going to bet you have a blown head gasket. I don't know who to send you to in Washington to have them done. It's probably going to cost you about $1500+. I do them for $1200-$1300.

Do you know the service history of the car?

Yeah that little search function goes a long way. Legend are synonymous with Head gasket failure.

it`s definitely not sucking it back out when cooled off. i really just need to to get the hydro test and go from there. it has 190k,so in all reality,BHG....dammit.

thanks Mike Diaz, i`ll probably end up taking it to Gregs Japenese( a pretty good shop around here),gonna cost me an arm and a leg,but i love my car so i`ll pay it.

Unfortunately, at 190k, you can't expect anything better out of an engine. Most other cars would have bit the dust long before that. As long as the rest of the car is worth it, spend the money and get her fixed.
