Pls help. 20.5 miles per gallon on highway - Good or Bad - Is it NORMAL???

I thought you are suppose to get at least 25 miles per gallon for a 1994 Legend Sedan L. I just replaced the air filter, fuel filter and I also put in NGK Laser Platinum spark plugs.

30psi is a bit low. If you check the owners manual it will state what the front and rear should be. I know it is different for the front and rear. 20.5mpg is low for thie interstate. How many miles does that work out to per tank?

When I fill up my tank - I reset my trip meter and when I go back to the gas station to fill up again - I calculate the amount of miles I have driving and how many gallons it took to fill it up to a full tank - and it works out to be about 20.5 miles per gallon. PLS HELP.

on the sidewall of your tires you should be able to find the maximum psi for the particular tire you have, a good range is 32-35 psi when the tire has not been driven on

as the tire is driven on the air heats up and expands so the pressure is more, always try to check the pressure before you leave in the morning as it will fluctuate as you drive because of the temperature of the tire...

also you have stated in a different thread that your speedometer is not working correctly this may have an effect on the odometer and the actual miles you are driving may not be recorded correctly, you should wait til you fix and solve your speedo problem before you get too worked up on your mileage

The amount of miles that I actually drive is the same as before when I my other car. I drive 50 miles each way. The trip meter seems ok. It is just the speedometer that shows that I'm going 15-20 mph more that I am actually going. - I have filled up my tank many times to full and drive the vehicle 1 way[50 miles] and fill it up again to full tank to determine my mpg is 20.5

It's supposed to be 32psi and 30 psi when cold.

That mpg sounds about right, on the street I get like 18-19mpg on the highway i get like 21mpg.

The car isn't a fuel saver.

Your mileage is in the normal range, but the lower side of normal...what tires and size do you have on the vehicle as that affects speed and mileage? If you have put on different tires with a different diameter than the stock you will need to recalculate the mileage using the proper conversion factor, same for speedo. If your speedo is wrong, your odo is wrong also. I posted a tire converter link once on this board. may be in search

It's all dependent on how heavy your right foot it, I'm afraid. For a long time, I believed my six-speed was slurping way too much, and I attributed it to the age of the car.

Most of the time, I will get between 280-300 miles out of a tank of gas. Now, that is between the same 'type' of fill-ups i.e. always fill it up to once click, same gas station, never top it up like crazy like I'm trying to fit 20 gallons in there!

However when my wife drives the Legend, which is usually when we take the car for longer trips, so more highway miles, we can easily go 340 miles on one tank. And she doesn't even drive like an old lady! Still a lot more civilized than I drive though. just kidding. I drive my car fast, but never irresponsibly, and I never (well, rarely) beat my car up, either.

Yes, our Legends use a bit of petrol, but we didn't buy Legends for saving money. With a bit of spirited driving, I think 20.5 mpg is a perfectly normal mpg. Yes you could do better, but what is the point ?
You could also do a lot worse, mileage wise!

I agree...and I am pretty heavy footed. On the highway I am usually going between 3rpm - 3 1/2 rpm. I'm not sure how fast that is. I just can't help it because I dont like driving slow in this car. I was hoping to get at least 25mpg because I fill up every 2 1/2 -3 days and every lit bit counts.
