Problems, Problems, Problems..

I was looking under the hood and noticed a big splatter of a greasy watery substance. It looked to have splashed up from the passanger front wheel well. I look under the wheel well and the first black boot (CV boot i'm guessing) has a gash in it. That's where all the fluid was comming from.

Now what kind of $$$ am I looking at with this? My coupe is still under warranty but the suspension is modified (Konis & eibachs) Will I have a problem w/ Acura because I'm lowered?

Also how much will parts and installation cost if I get someone else to do it?

Well I just did a search and i'm 100% sure it's a torn CV boot. Now it looks like most ppl repalce these themselves and got ones from NAPA, Autozone, or replace the entire axle. Well I just noticed mine today so I think it just tore. I'll take it Acura and see if they cover it under warranty.

But how much should a job like this run?? Just for reference w/ parts and labor?

I believe the OEM CV axle from Acura of Augusta is about $200, Buy that and have a reputable shop install it for about $50.

If it's just a torn boot and no clicking sound, you can get a Boot repair kit done for around $60.00.

As far as I know warranty will not cover that. As far as warranty and mods go: if the mod could, in any way, have caused the problem, warranty will deny the claim. I am not saying that lowering caused it, but Acura will probably say so....

Well, here's what i've deduced from the whole CV axle thing:
1.) Replace entire axle, replacing just the boot is going to be 75% of the cost of a whole new axle.
2.) 99% of the time, the boot's gonna crack before any of the other components of the axle fail. Refer to #1 above. lol
3.) Given these two things, if it can't be covered under warranty, and $200 for OEM is a steep price for you, get a reman axle for $60 from Pepboys, Checker, Autozone, etc. Like #2 says, if the boot's gonna crack, the joints will fail regardless of reman or OEM. Sure OEM will last longer, but not by much. Reman axles have lifetime warranties anyway. (aside from torn boots.)

Also, most boot repair kits are universal, in which the split boot does not always fit correctly when you secure the clamp. Usually does not last very long before the grease packing starts to leak out again.

You can buy a brand new OEM full cv boot replacement kit from Acura of Augusta for pretty cheap.

I MAY be able to get you a brand new OEM entire axle for about $125 through a hookup to the local Honda dealership.

Also IMO, do not get remanufactured or aftermarket boots or axles. Do a search and you should find that many members regretted that decision or were not satisfied with the results.

I had purchased a cv boot replacement kit from AOA, but ending up changing my whole axle and selling the cv boot kit. E-mail me with any questions if you like.

Good luck!
Imran

I got a reman and the first one was junk and made my car shake all over, the second is good (just installed on Wednesday) and I am happy as a whore.

duct tape owns you.

j/k please dont cover your cv boot with duct tape, although i know people who would try it.
yeah, i would recommend one from autozone, pep boys or o'riellys, the stealer will f u in the butt and not even give you the common courtesy of a reach around. no joke.

peace

Since I still have the Acura extended warranty untill May 2004 I'll take it to Acura to see if they cover it. This is a very common problem w/ Legends so it should be covered.

Thanks guys for your help as always.

Well to fix all your clicking it depends if you need just one axle or two, since there is an axle for each side.

But yes otherwise the axle includes everything.

Labor, well I paid $30 to have it put in.
