Projector Mod

For any one who has done this mod on their G2 leg w/ stock USDM 2piece housings:

I'm planning to do this project on sunday so i had a few questions for all yall out there who have succesfully completed it. (I know there are a couple of you out there). I'm using the projectors out of an OBX Civic Projector Conversion.

- How long does it take / Can it be done in one day (I have work on monday.)

- Witch process is easier, a heat gun or the oven?

- how did you mount your projector/ lense?

- What type of calk did you use to seal the housing back together?

- Can i use my HID kit in cunjunction with the projectors?

By the way if any of you have any pics of the install or the finished product i would greatly appreciate it?

Also if you have any other suggestions feel free to post.

I havnt read up on the install your talking about so I dont know about the Heat gun or Oven, but it seems to me the Heat Gun would be easier to control dont ya think? But like I said I dunno the process for this idea, just saying if your looking to control the heat better I'd say Heat gun.

For Mounting it just remember of course to keep the car as level as you can and do the same thing with the projector. I'd almost be tempted to just make it adjustable if at all possible, to do fine tuning once its in there. If thats not an option then I'd say get a good flashlight that'll fit inside and a leveling device (bubble level, etc...), these are just ideas, like I said above I havnt read the full story on this, if you have a link can you post it so I can maybe give you more ideas?

I'd be tempted to use silicone rubber and apply it with a small brush. Its water proof, lasts 15 years, and bonds to pretty much anything. Just make sure to clean the area its applied to before you put it on, like with rubbing alcohol or something. Just be careful like always.

I'd really love to see the whole kit sale, idea, etc... somewhere online so I can read it and give you more/better/revised help. This sounds like a friggin SWEET thing to do.

Are you gonna put the Projection part in the High or Low beam area? If you put it in the High beam and keep the Low Beam setup with your HID's, then all you gotta do is make sure they both turn on when you turn your lights on, so tapping into the same turn on basicly. You may want to consider upgrading your wiring harness to a good quality harness with a Higher wattage load while your in there.

Good luck Bo Ku, this should be really darn sweet when your done. Just take your time and dont rush it, you dont want your job to look rushed anyway.

actually oven is much better, just bake at 250 for 10mins, then pull apart carefully. That's how I did my taillights, maybe headlights takes a little longer.

Oven is better because it gets all the glue hot and soft at the same time. With the heat gun, you can only heat small sections at a time, and pry open a little at a time, more chances for damage the lense

Yeah, I got the projectors out of their housing with an oven, it was easy as hell and it only took about five minutes.

By the way what did you do to your taillights?

he opennd up his tail lights so that he could paint the amber turn signal section of the lense red instead of stock orange. just open them up with the oven method he mentioned, then mask of the amber and spray the inside of the lense with 3-4 coats of testers candy apple red transparent spray paint (this is model paint and can be bought at any hobby store - I got it at Micheals). Once its painted and dried seal the tailight back up with some silicone caulking.

Worked great for me!

how did you keep the plastic from melting. i'm sure the metal shelf in the oven will do some damage.

no,
if you preheat the oven for 10 minutes, and then place the item and pan in the oven together, it will be just fine. I had mine on at 250. That is the advantage of using a flat pan vs a 16 x 2 or something like that. It really isn't resting on the pan in a concentrated manner so it kind of just recures itself, if that makes any sense.

I was surprised myself, and pleased with the results. Haird ryer/heat gun takes TOOO long, plus uneven heating.

ok when i take apart mine i just need to put it in an oven for 10 minutes at 250?
